When weigh in is required after the first day of a 2 day tourney, what happens when a finalist can't make weight after the first day? I assume the person he/she defeated in the semi's becomes a finalist? Does everyone else stay in the same back side spot?

Nothing they just forfeit their match in the finals. The person that they beat is still in the consolations.

I believe the second place slot is left vacant. Whomever would have drawn that second place finisher at the state tournament will have a bye.

It only makes a difference for team scoring, but I believe that the person who drew the second place finisher from that regional would receive a win by default and get two bonus points.

Along the lines of the two day tournament weighin. At bluevalley northwest on the first day of competition they have a couple of meal breaks for the coaches and reff's I walked out to the lobby and see a mile of coaches and reffs going through a nice buffet style setting. I got to thinking about all of the wrestlers who still have to maitain their weight untill there last match of the day and then weigh in. They compete all day and then have to wait untill every one else has eaten then continue to wrestle. I feel that the second weigh in is BS. The buffet should be for the wrestlers who are putting on the show that the school charges the parents to see our own children compete. I think that who ever started all of the hydration testing and the second weigh-in do not have the best interest of the athelets in mind altho they might think they do.

A couple of points to your rant there Grandpa, 1. Most of the coaches have paid their dues, in fact many have starved themselves well beyond anything some of these kids could imagine which brings up the second items. 2. Hydration, whether you agree with it or not, is intended to keep the kids healthy rather than see kids cut weight the way it used to be done, and believe me I am not that old and I have some stories. The second weigh-in keeps the kids from ballooning up and forcing them to cut all that extra weight the next week.
Best interest of the kids.

The second weigh in is of particular benefit to the kids who are not cutting lots of weight and are able to wrestle at the weight class weight. That is to say, it forces kids to wrestle closer to their natural weight. They are allowed an extra pound for the two day tournament, and while it's maybe not easy it's as good as I can come up with. Kids that dehydrate themselves to make weight prior to make the initial home weigh in must be able to wrestle dehydrated, and they know they can't wrestle their best with no fluids. my .02

A few years back at Regionals there was a kid who was DQed in the finals for flagrant misconduct. All of his team points were deducted and at State, the first round kid got a bye, as did the kid in the first round of consolation.

this would be a great to reason to wrestle regionals out to 5th and 6th...then send those guys if smth screwy happens...just bump everyone up in the bracketing...3 becomes 2, 4 becomes 3 and 5 slips into 4, no way having a bye at the state tournament makes it a better tournament.

GPA Isenburg:
Coaches who care: -Plan Practice, give kids rides, plan duals, plan tournaments, deal with parents, deal with administration, deal with teachers, fundraise, fundraise some more, buy uniforms, grocery shop for tournaments, keep stats, go to numerous meetings, work out extra with kids, help them get down to weight in the mornings, spend 16 hour days with your kids on Saturdays and sometimes Friday, do mountains of paperwork including hydration testing, discipline, praise, tutor, and guidance counsel.
Now I know we coaches don't do much, but don't you think we might do enough to deserve a good meal at a tournament every once in a while? I don't mind seeing your rants... but you should pay to watch your kid wrestle, your kid should sacrifice during the day for a greater reward in the end, Hydration testing is a pain in the butt, but is a good thing.
I personally have pulled more weight in my life than 95% of the current wrestlers in this state. So I don't feel too sorry for them when I am eating a turkey sandwich and they are hanging out with their friends, out of trouble, at a tournament. You should be thanking us for being there, not this B.S..
