Settle down, I'm sure they are working on them. When they are done they will be posted just like every other year.

This was the first tournament we've been to this year that started on time. What a nice change. In fact, I thought the tournament was well run all day. Thanks Salina organizers.

I actually have some concerns about the Salina tournament, and now for any tournament my son will be registering for. My son has a birth mark... a "strawberry" as it is called, and is not contagious and never has been contagious. He was not allowed to wrestle Saturday. What can be done to bring as proof that this is only a harmless birthmark?
I would like my money back or course, but that was refused, and now we are afraid to enter him at another tournament. He is only 6 and has no understanding as to why he could not wrestle.
Please give me some advice. I don't want to see the look I saw on my son's face again. He was devestated, and we were very upset. What can we do for proof that he has always had this birthmark... ps. the mark is under his singlet on his back.

I am not sure how a birthmark can be mistaken for a contagious skin condition but if you are concerned about it happening again then you can have your doctor fill out a skin release form and carry it with you to any future tournaments you attend. It is too bad that a 6 year was denied the chance to wrestle over a birthmark but infectious skin conditions could spread like wildfire in a contact sport like wrestling so I hope you understand the concern whoever was doing skin check at Salina had.

Yes, that is correct we had a PA at our tourn say that the mark on his back did not look like a birth mark... Our coach and tourn director told the family if they would go to State Care or the Hospital and get a release we would let him wrestle. When holding a tourn with over 1,000 wresters it is about the saftly of all wresters. With that said, we feel we made the correct decision about not letting the kid wrestle without a release.

We had an 8 year old that almost didn't get to wrestle because he had a scratch on his chest from a tournament two weeks ago. I know the importance of being careful, but I think the PA should know the difference between a scratch or a birthmark and a contagious skin condition.

I had the same problem in Hutchison by a lady, who was doing the skin check. I sat in the emergency room for 3 and a half hours to get a release, so my son could wrestle. That was just not right.. He was never questioned any where else. I know how you feel. When i took him in the dr looked at me like i was crazy to take him in there for that reason.

Our coach has always told us if you think someone may say something, you better get a skin release form. From a bruise, scratch, rash, to a cold sore - get a release and save the hassle.

That's why the Salina weigh in is the most tense weigh in year in year out. A volunteer should be able to tell between a contagious skin issue & a bruise, scratch or birth mark not to mention a P.A. or nurse on hand. People travel too far to this tournament & spend too much money in Salina to be harrassed about a bruise or scratch as webb2001 put it. My son popped a zit Friday before the weigh in & we held our breath until the weigh in, skin check was complete.

I also agree! We had a kid with a chapped lip that had cracked and they wouldn't let him wrestle last year so even though we love the tourney I hate the weigh in's. Even state is not like this and I definately don't want my kid coming home with ring worm but there is definately a difference between a scratch and a ring worm. We also agree that if there is any question than one should get a skin release form. The problem is that there is no question on most of this stuff! They are very prompt to send you to thier local emergency care unit once they tell you they are suspicious! Maybe they have a deal together who knows. A tourney of this magnitude should put a P.A. on call as a courtesy to the wrestlers. That would make things a lot smoother! Thanks!
