If I didn't I would probably be like most people and not notice that this weight class was quietly eliminated. Weight classes are seldom if ever "quietly" eliminated. My question is why? I realize that this weight class will never fill a 16 man bracket, but is that any reason to eliminate it.
You asked and answered your own question. I don't know the history of this weight class but if it got eliminated it was after careful thought and for good reason. Being able to partially fill an 8 man bracket once a decade is not a good enough reason to keep it around.

Then why are people just now hearing about it? When a weight class is eliminated the clubs should be notified so that the parents ,kids and coaches are aware of it. You should not have to go searching to find out if a weight class has been eliminated. It would still be nice to know who made this decession

Your club likely voted up or down on the issue. Ask your representatives how they voted first. Of course if your club was not represented at the meeting then you have no right to complain.

Maybe i am going blind but I just read the minutes from the minutes from the meeting which are posted on this website and could not find anything to do with eliminating any weight classes.

I was not at the state meeting but have spoken to a couple of people who were. No one that I talked to heard any discussion about eliminating this weight class. I read all of the minutes of the meetings that are posted on line and didn't find any reference the elimination of 12 and under 60. This seems pretty "quiet" to me.
I see only one of two possibilities as to how we got to this point.
1. A person or group decided that the elimination of this weight class was in the best interest of the State Tournament and its participants.
2. This was an oversight and the class was never meant to be eliminated.
Either way I feel that someone needs to give these kids and their parents an answer. I don't feel that this is an unreasonable request.

We live in western Kansas and my son wrestles 12 and under 64. Besides the Salina tournament, he has only had one kid to wrestle that is a 64 pounder. All of his other matches have been heavier kids. So, not only do we not have any kids that are 60 pounders, we don't have any 64 pounders either. I think I would rather have my kid wrestle heavier than not have any matches at all, which is what my son we be seeing at the qualifying tournament. Also, at our district meeting before the season started, our coaches were informed of the rule change.(dropping 12 and under 60) Perhaps your district director should have informed your coaches as well??? Just a thought:-)

I am working from memory here so I could be mistaken, but I believe the rational given for this change was that there were few light weight wrestlers and there was a need to add more heavy weight classes. I did not think any weights were added to 12u but maybe at other age groups? Ironically, I notice at 12U 240 last year at state there was one entry.

My son Blake is 11 years old and weighs in at 56 lbs every weekend. He has been wrestling 64 and 68 lb kids all year and does well but does have difficulty with some of the top 64 and 68lb wrestlers in the state do to the weight difference. I was unaware of this weight bracket change until last weekend. It is a shame that he will be forced to continue to wrestle 64lb kids at the qualifying tournaments and at state giving up so much weight. We have done everything we can to get him to gain weight and he does eat well. He just has a very high metabolism. If he is like his Dad, genetics will eventually catch up with him. This is the first year he has had to worry about gaining weight to wrestle competitively and it is definitely bothering him. So when he found out that his 60lb weight class was eliminated, needless to say he was very disappointed. I told him to just go out there and give it his all like he does week in and week out and show everyone that BIG things come in small packages. He has a BIG heart and loves wrestling. You can count on him to be standing on the podium at the State 64lb bracket.

Blake is an excellent wrestler. I can tell just by looking at him that he is giving up weight to his competition. I am sure his toughness and attitude will serve him well in the future.

I think there are more 60# kids out there than you think, Logun Duncan from Junction City weighs less than 60# i have seen him weigh in at night. He seems to be a decent wrestler i think. next year they will still be at 64# i would guess

I read on the forum before the state meeting that some weights were going to be eliminated and some that were going to be added. Last year was the smallest state bracket we have ever been in. My son was one of those 6 at 60lbs. last year. It was one of the toughest seasons my son ever had. He was beat around quite a bit. Weighing in at 58lbs. and wrestling kids at 72lbs. But, I know wrestling those matches have made him a tougher wrestler this. He even had to set out several weeks to get healthy. I just hope that someday that he starts putting on weight and that he'll start lifting weights this summer. The next few years are going to be tough for all these young men. We just need to stand behind them and their time will come.

I guess I'm missing the reason for continuing to bump this thread?

The reason is because I was hopeing someone would step forward and answer some of the questions that have been asked. If someone will just point me to the minutes of the meeting where the elimination of this weight class was discussed and agreed upon. Only one person has stepped forward with a reason and even he admits to not knowing any of the facts. I don't know the history of this weight class but if it got eliminated it was after careful thought and for good reason. Being able to partially fill an 8 man bracket once a decade is not a good enough reason to keep it around. Well if this is the best anyone has then there are some more weights that need eliminated: Number of wrestlers at 12 and under 240lbs and 215lbs year- 240 215 2007-- 1-- 4 2006-- 0-- 6 2005-- 2-- 9 2004-- 0-- 7 2003-- 1-- 2 2002-- records not available 2001-- 5-- 9 2000-- 4-- 6 1999-- 1-- 6 placers This sure looks similar to the 12 and under 60lbs. 240lbs never filled an eight man bracket and 215lbs only did twice. Over half of the time 240lbs has 1 or 0 participants. The only reason that I am posting is because my kid is directly involved. I don't feel the need to put in my opinion on any topic that doesn't concern me or my family. If someone will just step forward with a good answer or any proof that this topic was discussed I will let it drop. My son will do his best at 64lbs and hopefully advance to state again this year.

This sure looks similar to the 12 and under 60lbs. 240lbs never filled an eight man bracket and 215lbs only did twice. Over half of the time 240lbs has 1 or 0 participants.
Be patient! We'll get those weights in the future. I'm guessing that the reason those weights were not eliminated was that when you do so, those kids are in effect eliminated, as opposed to your son who can wrestle up. Continuing to bump the thread will not get your questions answered. I would suggest you talk to you club representatives first and find out how they voted and why.
