Just wanted to send out a Thank you to the Pittsburg Club for a job well done on our sub district tournament. The matches moved along well on all mats I coached on, good table workers and refs. Thanks again!

Over all, a very good tournament. However, why not move more matches BEFORE removing mats? Mats began being picked up 2-3 hours prior to the last match. We were there until 5 p.m. & there were a few more matches after our final, & only 1 mat on the floor. Just something to think about for next year.

Thanks for a good tourney!

Why didnt they move matches? By the time I wrestled everyone was tired and wanted to go home. Waiting for about 3 hrs for my last match didnt help my wrestling at all nor did it help my opponents.

I agree that the beginning of the tournament went well, but the end was a disaster with memebers of the Pittsburg club more worried about rolling up the mats than moving matches around to help get everone out earlier.

Just a little piece of info for all of you who have decided to post negative response to our tournament. First of all, you need to realize that we as a club do not make little to any profit at all for hosting this tournament we simply do it because we have a nice large facility to do so. Also, do you realize just exactly what kind of time and effort it takes from the parents of our club....it's all volunteer work and we do have another life other than spending two entire days setting up and cleaning up from this tournament. I can respect that you feel that matches could have been moved however, we were just as ready to get the tournament wrapped up and over with as you were and we needed to get the mats that we borrowed from other clubs loaded up for them to take back. So my response to you on this topic is that if you are so dis-satisified with the way our tournament was ran or you feel that we were to worried about getting the mats rolled up....Feel free to take it upon yourselfs to host it next year. You will never understand until you have to do it all yourselfs! Please try and keep you negative responses to yourself and just be glad that all you had to do was sit and the stands until 5:45...watch wrestling....and simply drive home!

One mat ran a little long.... Everything else was great. The tables and numbers where in great view. The other mats I coached ran smooth

My son had three matches in his four man round robin. He was done by noon. I am very surprised to hear that some of you went past 5:30 PM. We enjoyed it again this year. We just love the facility and all those big mats for all the age groups. It is a little difficult driving every year that way for Subs, especially after the Wichita Classic for the Johnson County people. But to be honest we like the facility and big mat experience so much that we would be ready to do it again for Districts. I really wish Districts could be held there too. I guess it might be too difficult for District 1 North but I know they would love those big mats for all the kids too. Personally I think that the Pittsburg clubs that work this Sub every year definitely deserve some profit from this tournament. Our family has always enjoyed the Pittsburg hospitality since you have been doing this Sub.

I'm a little surprised at some of the negative responses. I started this topic to show appreciation for all the time put in by volunters. My family left around 5:00 after loading mats loaned by Labette College. Sorry if picking up early caused others a bad experiance. I think we should feel fortunate to have a large facility to have subs in and the amount of VOLUNTEERS it takes to run it.

I thought the tournament was ran pretty well, especially if matches not being moved is the only complaint!

Thank you, to anyone and everyone, that loaned us wrestling mats or vounteered your time to help make this tournament happen.

I think the people on here complaining will have more to whine about next year if the tournament is held in a gym that can only hold 2 full size mats instead of 8!

Yes after looking at the other side of this story I believe that it ran well. And I apologize for being so negative towards the pittsburg wrestling club.

The Pittsburg facility is great for kids wrestling! We look forward to making the trip each year. It is really somthing seeing a kids face when he sees the size of the arena and also that he gets a full size mat. I also think the volunteers did a great job as well as the refs.
Way to go Pittsburg!

wrestlethebest1 I think it takes a big person to come back and apologize....thank you for doing that.......also thanks for all the positive praise......I am one of the volunteers and believe me those are few and far between....not sure how it is in other clubs but in pittsburg club it seems to be the same few parents that come early and stay late......thanks to all the area clubs that helped us throughout the day......I think we get more help from area clubs than we do within are own club and we appreciate the help more than you will ever know.......Thanks again!!

Great job Kevin & Stacy! Thanks for letting me work a table - I got a front row seat, you did a great job and I didn't hear any complaints about not being able to see the mats from anybody. I had a good time and want to wish Mrs. Sommerfeldt happy birthday again. Did the little Koehn boy's gum ever stop bleeding from pulling his own tooth? (First blood time given for the towel boy!) Hope to be there again next year. - Maggie Noblet

Hats off to all of the Pittsburg volunteers, especially to Kevin & Stacy Seybold. The full size mat situation we all get to enjoy is well worth the drive. As far as moving matches is concerned, it is difficult to do that and not disrupt the flow because of the required rest time between matches. Stacy is right, if you haven't ever ran a tournament you shouldn't be complaining. It is a huge effort to get volunteers, mats, food, organizers, cooperation, time, etc. I know Kevin took vacation to get this tournament setup. How many of you would give a day of vacation to work for free?!

I thought the tournament was great. Okay, one small complaint from my son, the brackets were, in his words, "cheesy". Kids!!

THANKS PITTSBURGH !!!

I agree that the tournament was great. Many times the "upper weights" are one of the last brackets to finish. My son's bracket, 12U 190, finished at noon. I talked to many people who were really happy with the over all tournament. I know a couple of people that this was their first year at subs where complaining about driving all the way down there when there was a sub tournament 20 minutes away, but after it was over they said they would drive it again because of the great facility and the way it was ran. Thank you Pittsburg and I look forward to next year!!!

I didn't realize my "suggestion" would cause such an uproar. I didn't want to come across as being negative & I am sorry also. I know what it's like to volunteer your time, as I have helped with Districts the past 2 years. I know you can't make everyone happy. I just didn't know why so many mats were being picked up so early with so many matches left. I too enjoy the experience in Pittsburg. As I believe I also did comment on how good of a tournament it was in my prior reply.

Thanks again for a super tournament. Sorry if I caused any upset.

I am over a week late getting this posted...

Thanks to the Pittsburg Wrestling Club and to Kevin & Stacy Seybold for the great job that you do in hosting the south sub-district tournament!

Most people don't realize, what has already been covered on this post, that this tournament is not a BIG revenue generator. Your wrestling family has taken on the task of setting up and using a great facility to the benefit of ALL our kids in the south subdistrict!

I know I talk to Kevin 3 or 4 times the week of the tournament about little things that you might need, and I can't imagine your phone bill when it comes to calling officials, arranging mats, working with tableworkers and more!

Please share our thanks with the staff at Pittsburg State that you work with also. I think this is a positive recruiting tool for them as it brings a lot of potential students to the campus to be a part of a great event, and it showcases their campus and facilties to many parents as well.

Thanks again for your organization and hard work in making our subdistrict tournament a great event for our kids!

wrestlethebest1 good question in an open talk forum you shouldnt have to apologize for someone elses inability to recognize constructive criticism. A leader will ask these questions. A follower will question those who ask these questions. Be a leader and ask these questions weather it is posed to an "adult" or not.
