Tell me again why the state uses the draw format to set up the brackets.

So that no one will be able to manipulate their positioning in the bracket by throwing a match in their regional tournament.
Seeding is so controversial and political in high school that there is no subjective way to fairly do it.
I really think there should be a true second or challenge match since the two best kids could often end up on the same side of the bracket.
Did you have any ideas on how it should be done?

I was just looking at a couple of the heavy weight brackets (3 and 4a) and it looks like in both classes the highest ranked two wrestlers are going to meet in the semis. In 4a Doxon and the "new kid" from Royal Valley are on the same side of the bracket and in 3a Zlatnik and the Garden Plain kid who is ranked third are on the same side of the bracket. Since Thomas from Norton defaulted out, the top side of the bracket doesn't look to be as strong (yes, there are good wrestlers on the top, don't attack me!) I have no idea how to make it bettter. It just stinks.

Back in the day in Colorado the top two in Districts would go to state. If the third place finisher didn't wrestle the second place finisher there would be a challenge match. The lose stayed home.
It could be done the same way with 2nd and 3rd but the loser would still go. The funny thing would be getting a worse place on the bracket because of the draw.

pburgwrestler you are right. If your going to win state, you'll have to beat the number one or two kid in the state. So doesn't matter where you meet em at..

It's just that the 2nd place wrestler may not be the 2nd best, even on that day.
