Labette did have a great run...a stronger Saturday could have brought the title home. We lost some matches we shouldn't have lost...I guess we won a few we shouldn't have too. Morgan (165) wrestled smart and relaxed through the tourney...He made us proud. He didn't rip off Lowers arm in the finals but he did beat him solidly! Scotty Berens wrestled his heart out at 133...I smiled ear to ear watching him earn AA honors. Ward wrestled very tough on Friday...not quite so active on Saturday...but a solid tourney and AA finish. 149 Hynick brought home a few points with his throw/pin and some quality experience. 157 Cornejo stomped arse through the back door and avenged his front side loss for a third place finish. He just started a little too tight. Yust (174) just never got going. Enyobi (184)gave it his all every match...to the last second...and he had some of the prettiest blast doubles of the tourney. Rencountre (197)looked very tough on Friday...and a little flat on saturday...but a solid tourney overall. Big Ben Hohensee (HWT) really should have been in the finals (against a guy he has beat)...he was up 5-1 with 30 seconds left in his semis match...he just shut down and got clipped. He had a great tourney though...I'm excited for his chances next year.
Iowa central is operating a different kind of program and they will continue to be a formidable foe for the coming years. Meremac was much stronger than I expected...they were legit. I don't know if they will have that kind of talent next year though. North Iowa is operating under that Iowa Central type of system too...they will be tough. If you get a bunch of stud non-qualifiers from around the nation (or world)...you can always put yourself in the mix. It's nice to see Renfro develop regional talent the way he does. Most of the guys we wrestled with would never see the light of day on an Iowa Central team...but we can go with all of them. Next year...
