FHSU is in the process of adding soccer. So they have money or can get the money, just different priorities. That is a good move on their part. They will definitely have the home field advantage with the winds out there. _________________________ "I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid... you're afraid of us. Soccer supports Title 9, men and women can be added at the same time. I think soccer is added under Performing Arts or something, not Athletics.

I would love to see another opportunity for Kansas athletes to stay in-state to compete in wrestling. But that opportunity would be meaningless if there were not sufficient money endowed to cover operating costs and 9.9 scholarships (in today's available investment return rates I would estimate this to be about $7 million in endowed funding).....because in my opinion, the program would be in peril of being cut at some point in the future if not funded without dollars outside the university budget. Plus - without being a fully funded program we would not have a level playing field with the other schools we'd be competing against and trying to qualify for the national tournament against.
A DI program would be nice. However, like others have said, I believe we'll be money ahead if we spend our time providing support and dollars to our 4 existing NJCAA and 2 NCAA DII teams to help them become/remain fully funded and competitive.
Another caveat to the Wayne Jackson hitchhiking story is that he was reprimanded by the university when he returned home because his story had been picked up by the national press and the administration at home felt he had caused them embarrassment. IMO they should have been embarrassed, but not because the story made the news.....but because they didn't support their program.

Soccer is a communist plot to destroy all we hold dear. Their goal is to overwhelm us with sheer boredom and then replace our goal posts with soccer goals as we snooze. I have known this for many years.
Anyway, we have the same chance of ever seeing wrestling at KU and KSU as soccer does at becoming the national sport....ZERRRROOOOOOO.
Who needs them, they turned their back on us many years ago and they did it with a smile on their face. By the way I hope Wayne didn't read that, because he won't know that caveat is a veggy. It is isn't it??

Little Old Davidson - Enrollment 1,700 and they have wrestling. Davidson fields 10 mens sports and 9 womens sports. Not sure how that works with Title IX. I did not dig into the participation numbers. No football team. Maybe there is hope for D-I at Newman, Baker, Ottawa, etc. The Big 12 schools in Kansas and Wichita State Administration need a reality check - maybe give up a little of their pension plan, car allowance, travel budget, and give Kansas kids that are in minor sports an opportunity to stay in state and get an education. After my discussion with administration Ad's, Presidents, etc. They feel they are untouchable and they are above the taxpayer who allows them to be at these state instituations. By the way, their place of employment and the ground under the buildings they work in is own by us the taxpayer. We need to get these guys off their high horse and it is time to educate the administration and some of our own home grown kids. These big schools need pressure from the news media, The Kansas Board of Regents, Politicians, us - we the people of Kansas, if it takes a legislator to write legislation then we should do it. Finiacial plans have been discussed. I threw out a $5 to $10 million dollar number - I was told it would take more like $50 million for a 10 year plan. Of course that would include 2 more womens sports and facility improvements. These guys need to sharpen their pencils more often and quit putting their hand out for more, more, more fatter budgets.

Kansas University vs Davidson Revenues and Expense Data Source: US Department of Education http://ope.ed.gov/athletics/InstList.asp At the college level how can it cost $5 million more to field a D-I basketball team? Or how can one team spend more than $85,000 per player than another team and call that an even playing field. I understand it at the professional level New York Yankees vs the Kansas City Royals. Like I said the administration needs to sharpen their pencils and give Kansas home grown kids in minor sports the same opportunities for an education as they do for kids from out of state. Tim Sayers,
I was wondering the same thing about Oklahoma and Iowa and a few other states with lower numbers. Maybe a lot of those kids begin the freestyle/greco season earlier. Cost - lack of someone organizing the trip, etc. Some kids have already signed with schools - not sure of all the reasons.

Interesting. Missouri doubles Kansas in population and Kansas doubles Missouri in Senior National Champions since 1993. (A friendly poke at our fine neighbors to the East!)

Perhaps you didn't notice but the grade point average, of the 28 finalists in NHSCA Senior Nationals, was an amazing 3.31 ... that is 3.31!
