STARTED A NEW THREAD!
Thanks to all that gave input on estimating their weights and rosters! Many coaches, parents and wrestlers helped make the ranking more accurate. This will also prompt many revisions from those that have not responded. As the season gets closer, I will revise the rankings as information comes in. All in all, it's been a great time hearing from the Kansas wrestling community! These last two months are always the toughest. Thankfully we have the Fall Brawl, Super 32 and many dedicated coaches that are training our wrestlers for opening day!

Chief....relatively new to this site, which I find very informational. There are a couple of instances at 103 and 112 where you have ranked incoming 9th graders ahead of 10th graders who have probably competed against high school level competition aleady. Several ahead of Vesta and Heincker ahead of Seaton. Just wondering what criteria you use to rank them that way? Do you base that on head to head competition? Junior High performance? Particularly in the lower weights I would see the difficulty of trying to rank them appropriately, given you have no high school record to base your decision on.

Welcome to the forums BVW!
Incoming freshmen are always harder to predict, but in the lower weights there are many that will place very high at State. In many cases the Kid's State brackets give you a glimpse of what to expect. In the examples above, Vesta, Locke and Heincker competed in the 14/100 bracket where Locke beat Vesta in a very close match and Heincker beat Locke in the finals. A little more subjectivity comes in with Aaron Seybold. His potential is what carried more weight in my ranking. Having said that, it would not at all surprise me if Vesta beat any of those guys on a given day. After the two upper classmen at the top, the margins are very thin. With Pursel, you have a kid that has only lost to two Kansas kids in 5 years and has many national honors. All in all, freshmen are certainly unpredictable. That's part of the fun of it all!

Washburn Rural will have 06 medalist Dylan Pryor at 215, he has beaten Hicks in the past
Dalton Stanley will be a factor at 160--Treinan is a good kid but was out most of last year with injury

Chief...Thanks for the love for Lansing. As a Lansing dad, a wrestling coach, fanatic, etc, I think they will be very good too. Specifically on my son Bo I look forward to him earning whatever he gets both on his own team and abroad. He has won his share in the past but weighs a flat 100 pounds eating anything he wants. I am sure he will have his troubles with wrestlers of similiar ability that outweigh him by 15 pounds or more. It will be a fun year. I look forward to seeing Bo and all the Lansing wrestlers test their skills. Go Lions!

Rankings:
I've never seen the young man named:Sharkey Slyter, wrestle since he was involved in "Kid's wrestling tournament". However, several years ago,I vaugely recall a time when I was manning a table at the Wichita Classic and Slyter (I remember the name: "Sharkey") was checking out the brackets (and inquiring of me) to see if some steller opponent (an elite, highly ranked individual, who I choose not to name) was in his age and weight bracket (I recall that Slyter told me that he had adjusted his "weight" specifically for this tournament so that he could test his mettle against this opponent).
That got my attention. When told that this opponent was not in the mix, Slyter was obviously disappointed. I recall that I was suitably impressed with the young Mr. Slyter (I should add that I did not perceive his demeanor to be "cocky" but, rather, "confident" and "desirous" of facing off against the best their was to offer in the state of Kansas at or about his given age and weight!
I now see that, in all-class rankings, he has gotten the "nod" over Daniel Deshazier in the all-class rankings.
I have no idea who will eventually "prove" to be the best wrestler on a given night (i.e. Slyter or Deshazier), if and when, Slyter and Deshazier "meet-up" during the course of the on-coming season. Having seen Deshaizer wrestle, I would be hard-pressed to bet against him, but I still remember the competitive spirit of that young man that impressed me so much (i.e. Slyter).
Bottom line: I would just like to be there when and if this match would ever come to pass. I presume that there are countless, anticipated match-ups, throughout this state, eagerly awaited, which will either "validate" or "disprove" the chief's rankings . We either want the chief's rankings to be "vindicated" or to "proven to be wrong". That's the nature of the beast.
Chief: I already presume that you have some pretty "hard bark" on you and that you are willing to let the proverbial "chips fall where they may", in the spirit of heads-up "competion", and adjust your "rankings" accordingly"
In years past you have done that. Thanks alot.

statechamp69 makes a correct observation. Gentzler, Seaton, and Colton Eck should all be ranked above Alan Callahan. If using last year's state tourney as main guage (which is most appropriate) the order should go: Gentzler, Seaton, Eck, then Callahan. Should overall be a great weight class if they all end up at this wt.
Good luck all this season!
