Avenging an earlier loss to Abilene, the Concordia High School wrestling team remained unbeaten in the North Central Kansas League by knocking off the Cowboys 40-32 in a dual, Thursday night, in the Concordia Junior-Senior High School gymnasium.
Concordia had lost to Abilene 45-27 in the Wamego Invitational, back in December.
Winning six matches by fall, the Panthers turned the tables on the Cowboys in a league dual.
This was a very exciting dual. Both teams won seven matches; however, the turning point for us was we scored bonus points through pins, Concordia coach Kevin Brown said.
The Panthers are now 11-5 overall in duals and 3-0 in the NCKL.
I am proud of these young men. We are coming together as a team, Brown said, We had some young men who fought hard in a loss to be sure and not give up the fall.
Concordia fell behind 6-0 when Derek Mead lost by fall to Luke Cole in the 103-pound class.
The Panthers then posted four straight wins.
Taelor Mendenhall pinned Marcus Ruiz in the 112-pound class.
Wyatt Brichalli, 119, pinned C.J. Millard, and Concordia had a lead it would not relinquish.
Dalton Fraser won a 9-1 major decision over Cody Neff in the 125-pound class.
Our lower weight classes got us started on a roll by picking up falls in three out of the first four matches, Brown said, This really helped to create some momentum for the rest of the dual.
Dylan Moore, 130, lost by technical fall, 15-0, to Courtney Strauss.
Concordia then won the next two matches.
Alec Champlin pinned Ryan Daly in the 135-pound class.
Brandon Anguish, 140, stuck Hayden Karraker.
Lex Deal was pinned by Quinton Wuthnow in the 145-pound class.
The Panthers got those points right back when Brice Loeffler pinned Cody Riffel in the 152-pound class.
Concordia was open at 160, and Chase Champlin dropped an 11-5 decision to Jordan Ward in the 171-pound class.
Tyler Hasenbank secured the victory for Concordia by pinning Casey Dickerson in the 189-pound class to put the Panthers up 40-26.
Levi Kindel, 215, lost a 6-3 decision to Taylor Wuthnow.
Jordan Brown, 285, was beaten 3-1 by Tyler Gjersted.
Concordia is competing in the Beloit Invitational today and Saturday.
