Here is a prime example of miscommunication...
A previous poster claimed bias without giving specifics. They then PM'd me, telling me to look at 3 tournament results, mentioning only the weight class but not the wrestler. Finally they actually posted this....
***Son placed behind Mullins at Eudora who didn't even make top 6 at 145 state. Hattabaugh was beaten handily by Walker and Sanchez was upset 5-1 on his own home turf at Regionals. Those are specific comparisons. Walker also lost to Means by the lowest score by four (it was within 2 for at least 2 periods) that was found out there at Bobcat. Others ranked higher were pinned. During the season, Walker was only upset by 6A champ Means and 4A champ Sommers. Bad luck occurred at State or maybe the 5A outcome could have been different.***
Now we are talking. I changed the 145 ranking based on this info. Please feel free to offer criteria first, instead of claiming bias and keeping the facts secret.

Chief, I know it is hard to rank these kids. I should not of said what I said, sorry. I have no kids in high school but I follow it a bunch. I just wish the top four from 6a,5a,4a and 123a, could wrestle it off. There are even some kids that did not even place that could probably wrestle in the mix, like 145lb Wickham from Hays, ranked for most of the year and has a bad tournament which to bad has to be the biggest one and the last one of his high school career. All I wish is that they could wrestle one last time so there would have to be no guessing as to who is in the top ten.

Even if the above is done - there would still be injuries, bad calls, etc...(hence there is no solution to the ranking controversy/mystery) BUT, we could still have a great time watching some great wrestlers.

What about Windham? How can he be #2. Windham's two losses were to Watters, 8-5 at Newton and 4-3 at Derby. Pursel's two losses were to Seybold at Basehor and a default at regionals. Bo beat Seybold 11-6 in a dominating match and beat Watters in their only meeting in the finals. I realize Roger beat Watters in their last meeting, but weighing all the facts including the way Bo finished in a loaded bracket, put him at #1.

For what it's worth, Cullen Demerest of Lansing should be mentioned at 152 all-class. Cullen placed 3rd at state (152)and finished the year with 30 wins. He would be in bottom, 8th to 10th somewhere in the all class.
1. Cullen lost to Fullbright of Maize (state champ)at a tournament earlier this year in the last 10 seconds on a takedown. Lalo lost to Fullbright 4-2.
2. Wright-Conklin took 5th in 6A, Demerest took 3rd @ 5A.
3. Jordan Brown went 0-2 at state (152 5A). He was pinned in the 2nd round by Zeb Peak from Emporia. Demerest beat Peak 5-2 at state. Brown also quit after being stuck by Peak. (He forfeited his next match).
Just something to think about. Thanks Chief for looking at this.

I have thought about that issue with Brown at State and I agree with your information about Demerest. I'll add him.

John Lynch from Lakin beat trevor oliver 10-3 in the state semis at 140 and placed higher then zahorsky, maybe some consideration that way?

That was a tough one for me and I gave it a lot of thought. I know that Bainter and Zahorsky have handled John every time they have wrestled. Oliver does tend to overlook people though 10-3 is convincing. I will look at that again. Does John have any other quality wins?

Need some help at 189!
1. Darnell Bortz - Who was his 1 loss too?
2. 321A! Any input on how I deal with Krone, Hickel and Martinez?

Well, if Pursel would have wrestled Watters 4 times, he probably would have lost a couple of those. Windham beat Watters in their last two meetings. Seybold pinned Pursel and Windham beat Seybold at Chanute. And again, Pursel beat Witten 12-7 while Windham beat Witten by tech. Pursel beat Watters who split with Windham and Windham beat Seybold who beat Pursel. I still do not see how Pursel would have criteria over Windham. If anything, they should be 1t as with Napier and Maples. Otherwise, you are punishing Windham because he was in the "wrong" bracket and that is not right. But thanks for the effort Chief and the response.

Martinez beat Hickel at Regionals, Krone beat Martinez and Hickel at state. Based on these head to heads, it would go Krone, Martinez, Hickel in that order. In my opinion Martinez is the best of the three, but you have to admire Krone for beating the field that he beat at state. Krone vs. Martinez was a battle with a last 1/10 second call that could have gone either way going in Krone's favor in the quarter finals.

Chief:
You've already shown that you have some pretty "hard-bark" on you to endure the lame comments and caustic remarks which periodically surface on these posts.
You handle all posters with respect and dignity (although, presumably, some with gritted teeth).
I, for one, find your contributions to the world of Kansas high school wrestling, invaluable.
I don't know where, or how, you find the time, or where you got the inclination, to do what you do ( or for that matter all rankers of every class), but this sport will surely miss your departure - which, I hope is not soon.
Every tournament is "spiced-up" or, made a little more meaningful - or at least interesting - given your considered, all-class "rankings".
I don't know who will take your place when you decide you've had enough, but it's gonna take a pretty knowledgable, devoted and committed fan of wrestling to fill your shoes.
Great job. Again, thanks alot. I can only hope that there was something in this for you.
Thanks again.
