It was a takedown and a very good call. Look at the freeze frame picture. At the moment of this picture, control was established by Feldkamp, and both of nelsons feet are INBOUNDS. Anything that happened after that was irrelevant as they were out of bounds as soon as Nelson begun the roll which continued off the mat.

Well I thought the call was amature! I thought the both wrestlers were great. Thanks for the kind words dwelsh, Heights deserves it. Not only are refs human, they are super human, god like. When one ref blows a call its understandable, when the second ref blows it with him, well, it is what it is. I think it would be fun to watch refs wrestle and let the kids ref. Of course we would have to have 30 second periods, lol. How about refs in a potatoe sack race, that would be more like it.

Anything that happened after that was irrelevant as they were out of bounds as soon as Nelson begun the roll which continued off the mat. A FREEZE frame does not establish control. This is silly. If a FREEZE frame could establish control - we would have no such thing as a roll-through where no points are awarded because no control was ever had. And, roll-throughs are called all the time. It was a judgment call. Some agree with it. Some don't. Such is the nature of sports. To state again, the most impressive thing to me, was how Chase took the bad news. Keep his chin up and didn't let it ruin his world/day. Thank you for setting a good example for me and others. However, impressive how you got the imagine and the arrows and text all into a message on the board! ;-)

I think you missed the point David. The freeze frame was used simply as a point of reference to where any referee could have established in his mind that a wrestler had gained control. If you watch the video in full motion you would see that this position was held longer than the moment it took to grab this frame out of the video. In point of fact I counted 3 seconds from the time Nelson hit the mat until the time it was blown out of bounds. That is not to say that Feldkamp had control for those 3 seconds but between the time that Nelson was on his back to the time when the whistle was blow for out of bounds there was plenty of time for control to be established and it was.
As far as judgement is concerned that is one thing you are right about, it was a judgement call, unfortunately people just can't leave it as that.

I don't know. I'm not a ref. From my perspective it looked pretty much like a roll through. He 'had' Nelson on his back for less than a second from my perspective. Others saw it this way to. Obviously, others disagree. And to be even more obvious, it no longer matters. To congrats to both!

Steiger, if you got the time and interest, stop by my house sometime and watch the video. I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts about it as you know much more about this subject than I do.

Fieldkamp - did his job, kept it close and waited for a break... and he got it. Nelson - Was deep on multiple takedowns in the 1st and too conservative the rest of the match. - He let the match stay close and that's his fault. Alex Fieldkamp is the 6A 2009 171lbs State Champion. I also think he is a great kid, trained hard, and stuck to his game plan which won him the match. Do I think it was a blown call? Well, I'll let you guys decided what I think However, I am now getting ready for the next step. Getting Chase, Maple, Caldwell, Detmer, Beard, and any other Wichita Area kids ready for the BEACH and National High School Championships. Good luck to all of you and thanks to anyone who supports the Falcons.
