In my opinion this will be the most interesting high school weight to watch at Kids State. There are 10 high school state medalist from this year in this weight class, with 5 of them making the finals at in the past two seasons. Sorry if I left someone out:

District 1
Dillon Scanlon-Lansing (5th in 2009, 2 time qualifier)
Roy Haug-Blue Valley North (4th in 2009)
Jordan Miller-Effingham (qualifier 2009)

District 2
Dylan Penka-Bishop Carroll (3rd in 2009, 2008 State Runner-up)
Kash Biddle-Ark City (2009 State Runner-up, 4th in 2008, 4th in 2007)
Nick Hockett-Cherryvale (2 time qualifier)
Travis Reinhart-Derby (5th in 2009, 4th in 2008)
Jacob Gray-Bluestem (1 time qualifier)

District 3
Cody Wildin-Marion (2009 State Runner-up, 3 time qualifier)
Steven Plott-Salina South (3rd in 2009, 5th in 2008)
Courtney Strauss-Abilene (2009 State Runner-up)
Dalton Weaver-Chapman (1 time qualifier)
Jayde Kolterman-Clay Center (4th in 2009)

District 4
Jace Cambell-Oakley (2009 State Runner-up, 3rd in 2008, 2007 State Runner-up)
Derek Schnitker-Hugoton (2 time qualifier)
Terrance Lamb-St. Francis (1 time qualifier)
Devon Schneider-Plainville (2 time qualifier)
Brett Terrell-Norton (1 time state qualifier)

This was one of the best brackets with a lot of upsets and really close matches.

Did anyone see the outcome of the Biddle v. Penka match? I’ve got to question the call by the ref in the Sudden Victory period, he called a reversal for Biddle even though Penka had control of one leg and had an arm around Biddle’s back when he hooked Penka’s ankle. Immediately after calling the reversal for Biddle he gave Penka a reversal (although it was called off because in SV first point scored wins the match). To me this shows that Biddle had no control, just my opinion. This was a disappointing match to me as neither wrestler really opened up, hopefully next time both wrestlers meet up they will try to wrestle a little less conservatively and put on a "barnburner" rather than a "tickle fight".

The call was right. He had the reversal. We were close. Dylan wrestled his A$$ off this week and I could not be more proud. He knew what he wanted to do and went and did it. Both of these kids knew that the other could capitalize on any small mistake so they did not open up as much as they could have, but don't go calling it a tickle fight. These guys wrestled a chess match of sorts. Great work Dylan. I am so proud of you.

It was just my opinion. Remember I like to go fast and push the pace.

That was a fun weight to watch. Just look at the quality of kids that didn't even place in this bracket...Scanlon, Hocket, Wildin. This was the most loaded weight I've seen in a while. The finals match was a great match to watch, and just one of many awesome matchups in this weight. We knew this bracket was going to be a war and it did not disappoint!
