i will say that seeding wise... I say Caldwell, Napier, Maple, Beard, Nelson, and Detmer are the only ones i can really think of who will get seeds....
I remember my class, (2007) was loaded, I mean we had Paulie Hansen, Aaron Ely, Dooley, Bahe, Almageur, Mamie... All those good guys, and no one did it... I think if you could cut for this event it would be better, I mean Aaron would of gitten to 125, and he woulda done darn good. ANYOTHER YEAR, paulie would of all americaned but that year 119 was ridiculous... I mean Nikko Triggas, Tyler Clark, Zach Sanders, Bedolyon... Wow... that was tough... but its just draws, but its like that at every national tournament... If you get a good draw, you could all american, or you could go 0-2... I look forward to hearing how these young men do...

This tournament is a real eye opener for most of Kansas wrestler, parents and fans! It is all about the size of the fish tank we live in!

If you haven't got the message yet, Kansas ... here it is! In the past we have had some pretty good wrestlers in OUR fish tank ... and they have flat been eaten alive by sharks from another tank.

In the big wrestling world, Kansas is not in the top 5 as a State! (I know this sounds like our old friend, gutwrench) In fact, State-wise, we probably fall in the area of 8 to 12! We do have a few individuals, that if they have a great tournament, will place. We have 2 or 3 that even could be in contention for a National Championship such as Jordan Keller from Bishop Carroll earned last year.

A couple of years ago ... Kansas had ZERO All-Americans! There will be in this tourney several 4-time State champs, a flock of 3-timers, but the 2-timers and 1-timers, are wrestlers that won't even draw consideration for seeds!

California could have a wrestler, that placed 7th at their State championship, win it all! A 4-times from Utah may go 0-2!

Luckily I have something else to do for awhile ... ttfn!

I am not sure but I am sure that the junior Coach Church will make a post about his father's found wallet!

At 5 pm, we have a mandatory meeting at the venue for coaches and athletes. Curfew for minors is 9 pm in Virginia Beach!! Probably a good thing!

I might be making a post from the Hotel later but for now ... that's it for the Wednesday action (or lack thereof) at the NHSCA Senior Nationals!

ESPN AND THE NHSCA TEAM UP FOR BREAKTHROUGH NHSCA SENIORS FINALS BROADCAST ON ESPN360.COM

EASTON, Pa. – The production and broadcast teams are set for the first-ever live national broadcast of the 20th annual National High School Seniors Wrestling Championships presented by the U.S. Navy, which will be produced by the NHSCA and aired on ESPN360.com.

ESPN’s Quint Kessenich will provide play-by-play announcing and Jeff Blatnick will serve as color analyst. Marty Ehrlich will serve as Executive Producer for the event, and Chris Lincoln will direct the event. Both have over 20 years experience producing major sports and entertainment events around the globe.

Kessenich has covered wrestling, college and professional lacrosse, basketball, football, track and field and horse racing for the ESPN family of networks as a commentator and sideline reporter. A former All-American lacrosse goalkeeper, Kessenich attended the Johns Hopkins University from 1987 to 1990, and has covered 15 NCAA lacrosse championships as ESPN’s TV analyst. The native of Lynbrook, N.Y. also wrestled and played soccer in high school.

A gold medalist in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Blatnick has become a renowned wrestling color analyst, working on Olympic, collegiate and high school wrestling broadcasts nationwide. He has appeared as an analyst on ABC, ESPN, Madison Square Garden Network, and Prime Ticket Cable. He also is one of the nation’s premier motivational speakers. Kessenich and Blatnick recently were part of the broadcast team for the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, which also aired on the ESPN family of networks.

During his career, Ehrlich has held lead roles in the production of the Tour de France, the National Hockey League, college football and basketball. Lincoln has produced and directed many sports and entertainment events, including the National Hockey League, college basketball and the America’s Cup.

"We’re very pleased to have assembled a telecast team with the experience and the credentials of Marty Ehrlich, Chris Lincoln, Quint Kessenich and Jeff Blatnick," NHSCA executive director Bob Ferraro said. "This is a historic opportunity to acquire nationwide exposure for the NHSCA and for high school wrestling’s signature event. The opportunity to work with these consummate professionals will make this a historic and first-rate broadcast."

The telecast will air live on ESPN360.com on Sunday, April 5 from 7-9 p.m. ET, and will be followed by a 30-minute highlight show that will air on ESPNU in July.

Over one-fourth of the 2,628 wrestlers who are registered to compete – more than 700 in all – have won at least one state championship during their careers, and more than 1,300 are state placewinners.

"Our collaboration with ESPN360.com is a huge step forward for the NHSCA," NHSCA founder Bob Ferraro Sr. said. "This is a unique opportunity to bring the finals of the Senior Nationals, the nation’s most prestigious scholastic wrestling event, live to our loyal wrestling fan base. We’re very excited to bring this outstanding event to ESPN360.com."

Last year’s National Seniors Championship attracted 818 competitors from a record 49 states. The finals featured an outstanding field, including five two-time state champions, seven three-time state champions and three four-time state champions. The 28 finalists combined for 51 state or National Prep Championships titles in their careers.

The National High School Seniors Wrestling Championships is open to any high-school senior wrestler who has been a finalist in his high school state tournament or the National Prep Championships, with several wild-card entries through a petition system. The National Juniors, Sophomores and Freshman Championships are open events, with any wrestler eligible to enter at his grade level. For a complete list of Championships and Convention events, visit the NHSCA’s web site at www.nhsca.com.

This link will become active during the broadcast.

The NHSCA continues its involvement in high-profile high school sports events across the board. In addition to a full schedule of wrestling events, the NHSCA conducted its annual 7-on-7 football championships at storied Hoover High School in Hoover, Ala. in July, and hosted the NHSCA High School Basketball Festival Dec. 26-30 at Salisbury, Md. Formerly the Lions Club Holiday Classic, a long-standing event on the sports calendar of Maryland's Eastern Shore, the NHSCA hosted the 20th anniversary event with a field that included over 30 teams from five states.

The NHSCA also has entered a sponsorship agreement with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) for the state football and wrestling championships.

Founded in 1989, the National High School Coaches Association is a not-for-profit 501c3 service organization providing support and leadership programs for the nation’s 500,000 high school coaches and 10 million high school athletes.

Hinderlighter,

Kit Harris was looking for a few tips on how to enjoy the sights and sounds of Virginia Beach. You are in charge of filling my position of activities director while I am here in Kansas. By the way I really hopes it rains on you guys the whole time, its snowed here today and I was angry with the fact you could see the beach!

But in all seriousness go out there and leave it all on the mat. You never know what might happen...just ask Jordan Keller! And remeber "27 for life"!

Good Luck Kansas

... we are ready to roll and start the NHSCA Senior Nationals! One the partners for this even is the Navy Seals!!

I will try to update you on several matches. Some matches I will just tell you wins and losses others I will have a brief narrative.

If I recall from the past, the NHSCA does a pretty good job updating brackets but those updates are a bit delayed.

They've just announced to clear the mats!!

First bracket I decided to look at was 215 since that was my old high school weight....Tanner Kriss vs. Brandon Palik! Wow! Palik pinned #1 Orlando Scales at the Dapper Dan when I was back in Pittsburgh last month. Hope momentum is on Kriss side from the Beard match...could have 2 big wins in a row! Palik has committed to Drexel and was ranked 11th in the Nation at the time he pinned Scales.

Yes, Tyler opened Kansas up in style! He was kickin' the dawg out of Georgian and pinned him in the third for good measure!

Jeff Vesta had a rough opening. After 2-periods, he trailed 2-6 and in the 3rd, closed to within two. He had the opponent towards his back a few times but couldn't break the plane. Vesta loses, 4-6.

Weigel took a loss by fall.

Sharky won a close one, 3-1!

Chaz was trailing 0-3 going into the 3rd but came back for the dramatic win, 5-4!

Peters lost in overtime.

Cox was working hard and earned the 3rd period fall!

C.J. had a tough one to start. At the end of the 1st, 0-0. C.J. opted down and couldn't manage to score. 0-0 going into the 3rd ... the Colorado lad opted down but C.J. signaled they were going to their feet. In the 3rd, Napier with a pair of takedowns and the win, 4-3!

Cameron Jesseph also won a close one. He did score a takedown in the first and came away with a 3-2 win!

Kendric was also in a battle! There are no "easy" or "warm-up" matches here!! Kendric took the early lead but the opponent went head hunting and had Kendric on his back ... Kendric trailed after the first, 5-6. After two, Kendric was ahead, 9-7. In the third, Kendric opted down ... during the period, Kendric stood up and the opponent hopped on ... Kendric staggered out-of-bounds and gave up a "fleeing" point. Kendric managed to hang on for the 9-8 win!

Linwood Peoples won his first bout by injury default. Linwood was leading 5-0 and was in on a double when the opponent suffered a broken ankle ... Peoples wins!
