I wonder if Aaron Morgan could make the cut down to 130. He wrestled at 135 for the Fall Brawl. I think he would stand a better chance down there than at 140. He would avoid the big 4 in Anderson, Hood, Weller and O'Hara. Maybe Abilene could get Courtney Strauss to go 130 and Morgan could be 135. That would set-up a possibility of Morgan v. Nitcher in the state finals. Not sure if the move down would help Strauss though.

ok i have some questions about the rankings. nothing againts the kids, but at 125 you have brett lamar at 4th? that is what he placed at kids state 130 and almost all his matches could have went either way...yes there were some good kids at that weight with bontz,johnson,ect. Yes i no any kid could beat any kid just depends on the day and who wants it more. I just want to no the reasoning behind the choices in the middle weights because 125-140 has alot of tough wrestlers and not enough places.

Lamar went 1-1 with Logan Singular last year, losing to him at Beloit and then beating him at Silver Lake. He also went 1-1 with Blaine Smith, beating him at Silver Lake and losing to him at Beloit. Lamar has been pretty spotty at the state tournament the past couple of years, but his overall performance against top competition probably warrants a ranking to start the year out.

He was entered to wrestle 130 at Fall Brawl but had the flu the week before which left four days to make a pretty big cut...he ended up at 134. He could go anywhere from 130-145...just depends on what is best for the team.

LaMar lost to Weigel and Davis by 1 point at state. During the season he lost to Sparr and Hoen and split with Singular and Blaine Smith. Is there anyone below him at 4A/125 that has criteria over him?

nope, i just never heard much about him and have only seem him at kids state. Kids state is not Highschool state.

Yes, but you often see some pretty good matchups at Kid's State between small and big class schools that typically don't happen during the high school season. In fact there was one bracket last year where high school state placers didn't come home with a plaque. It was 16 and under 135, Dillon Scalon of Lansing and Dillon Wildin of Marion didn't place. Also, Jayde Kolterman of Clay Center failed to make it out of Districts. I guess my point is not to overlook Kid's State results.

Also, since you seemed to be so hung up on Lamar being ranked here's a little tidbit of info: he placed 4th in his Kid's State bracket while Logan Singular (who is ranked ahead of Lamar) went 1-2 in the same weight. Lamar beat Jordan Ervin on the front side, Ervin eventually beat out Singular.

It appears to me that some times there is too much emphasis on the "kids state" in the rankings, class and all class, and subsequent discussions pertaining to the rankings. Kids state is definitely a measurement and perhaps even an "important" measurement. But to me other things, specifically how they did during the high school season or at Fargo, etc., are more important. We all know that kids state is not as important to most kids. They probably do not apply themselves as much in their kids state quest. They are not in as good of shape usually and they may not be at the "best" weight for them. I wholeheartedly agree that kids state is not high school state. I am not saying to "overlook" it. I understand that some times it is the only way to measure kids against each other because of the "grand state" nature and may be some times necessary on something like the all class rankings. I also understand that some times it is more difficult to win kids state because of the "grand state" nature that it possesses. I have seen some monster brackets with some great matches at kids state. It is a great accomplishment to win kids state, unless you had like three kids in your bracket. So yes, some times it is harder to win kids state but that is not always the case though. As a coach, I have had some kids that won high school state but did not win kids state. I have had more kids though that won kids state but did not win high school state and I guarantee all of them would have rather won high school state. When you go out into the world and the world of wrestling and people ask you if you were a state champion, they definitely don't mean "kids state" champion, they mean high school state champion.

I agree with your take on how prepared wrestlers are or are not for Kids State vs. High School State. There were a couple of years that we left immediately after districts, skied in Colorado for a week and weighed in for Kids State on the way back home.
