It was origionally developed by the wrestlers from North Hampton, PA. . a town which is predominantly miners and cement workers.

Hence the real name of the move "the cement mixer."

This is a Great Novelty move. It is great at ruining 6 and 8 year old wrestlers. Make sure your wrestlers KNOW how to wrestle before teaching this TRICK move.

My son learned the Twister from Keiswetter at a camp he attends every year. My son had nothing but good things to say about him and proudly wears his Twister shirt. I believe he teaches them when and the right way to use it.

This move like every other wrestling move takes practice. If you learn any move well it will take work then it will work for you. No matter how old you are. Not all moves are for all wrestlers.

I probably came across a little sideways, especially since this is the High School forum. This is not a bad move for High School and Jr. High wrestlers. I have just seen too many little guys get ruined because all they learn is; The Snake, Headlock, Cow Catcher, Bulldog, Cemet Mixer, Twister, and any other muscle move. They find success early with these moves and refuse to leave them to learn how to wrestle. These moves all work great, if you know how to wrestle. If these moves are all a wrestler knows, their success will quickly fade. I'm sure there are examples of wrestlers doing great with just one move, but the majority can not.

See Beeson, you are learning to take a deep breath, then speak. Problem is, you are supposed to take the deep breath before the first post!!

it also makes for a great college move .. as keiswetter pinned basically everyone in college with the twister. I love this move although it wasn't for me, I wasn't confident enough to try it.

(and even works on great wrestlers) while we were being taught this in highschool our jv 119/112 Morgan May hit 3x state Champ Tommy Edgmon in it in practice several times .. it was hilarious. You got to have confidence and learn it correctly and its deadly .. definitly not a "muscle" move. Its a timing/speed/technique move, which is 98% of moves in wrestling!

Most of the moves Beeson listed are muscle moves when used at the youth level especially in 6 and under or 8 and under.

Need a tutorial.

50 years ago back in my day and town we had no wrestling (football, cheerleading, boys basketball, cheerleading, boys indoor and outdoor track, baseball, boys golf and tennis). Did not get into wrestling until my now 30 year old son was a freshman in high school. Love it, a great sport. But, I have to plead my ignorance. I recognize a good move when I see it---but I don't know the name of more than 2 or 3 moves--a half, a single and a double leg.

What would help a lot of us fans would be a film, CVD, YOU Tube, what ever (with naration) of a bunch of moves (The Snake, Headlock, Cow Catcher, Bulldog, Cemet Mixer, Twister, and others). Perhaps a similar film, etc on legal and illegal moves/holds from locked hands to what ever.

There may be such tutorials out there to purchase but I don't know what I am looking for, or where to look.

Any comments ideas??

My son wrestled under Mr. Keiswetter at Seaman High School. Mr. Keiswetter was big on the twister and awarded the wrestlers with ice cream everytime a match was won with the move. The twister should be used as a last resort move or against a less experienced wrestler. My son bought in to this novelty move and won a couple matches with it. He also lost MANY matches to it. The twister requires the aggressor to go to his back with the hopes the opponet does not know how to defend against it. This move is easly defended, leaving the aggressor on his back.
This move has sold several shirts and is cool when it does work. It has it's place (as does the Hail Mary pass). Learn the move but know when to use it. Just understand a more seasoned wrestler usually won't get stuck with it.

I've got to say that when done correctly, this is a tough move to stop. I coached it (bought the video)and saw quite a few kids hit it well and others just pull their opponent on top of them. It is a pretty technical move. The problem with stopping it is that in order to do so, you're setting the guy up to be snaked. It's like most risk/reward moves; you'd better practice them in live situations about a thousand times before initiating them in a match (unless it's desperation time). I'd rather see a kid hit the twister than go for a sloppy head lock.

The Twister I was taught you don't just roll with a front headlock, but rather initiate the move by using an underhook then lifting that side with the hook then reaching under with your far hand and grabbing that hand that is "winging" down and rolling to that side, taking away their post hand so they cannot stop the move once it's initiated... I never used it, but did watch a kid use it to beat a returning state placer, I know I know, the whole my brother's cousin's uncle's sister's boyfriend used it story, but I do have it on our highlight video from HS if I can figure out how to get it off there.
