At this weight more than others, I have dedicated coaches, dads and fans that know these wrestlers in detail. I also have seen most of these battles.

Isaac Ruiz and Zac Dremel have taken the biggest hits from the latest action. Ruiz especially. I am a huge Isaac fan and all he did was lose two VERY close matches to Williams and Dremel. That moved him to #4 in 6A. Then.... A 22-1 Dremel loses to a 5 loss Hood only to be pinned on the backside by a 7 loss Haralson. Williams, who has had a fantastic season, with his only loss at 112 to Bo Pursel (We'll get back to him), beats Haralson and loses to Austin Hood (He's back from the carnage of Eudora by the way). Yes, Prescott beat Haralson earlier. Oh well, let's get back to the story. Boyer! He was the last man standing after the smoke cleared at Eudora. He could hardly get the smile off his face until Zac Dremel showed up with an attitude at JOCO. We have already read the Dremel chapter so let's talk about the human wrecking ball named Dalton Miller. He has basically destroyed everybody that he's met, including majoring Boyer, until...a small town kid named Schumacher, who owns a victory over Prescott (his only quality win), didn't care about his record and came within a locked hands call of beating the king at 112. Now to your original question. Why is Kmiec ranked so high? He has two losses. One to Ruiz, and one to Martinez. One big positive for Aspen (maybe bigger than the pursel pin) is that he pinned Garcia from Blue Springs, who is likely to win MO state.

Some parting thoughts:

1. Dalton Miller's success aside, my personal opinion is that in a super bracket, Bo Pursel is the best 112 in Kansas.

2. Dylan Schumacher is better than my #7 ranking.

3. Bo Newport has escaped scrutiny and on any given day could also wear the belt (or the All-Class T-shirt!)

4. I expect Isaac Ruiz to rise up and be counted at the end.

5. This weight would be exhibit A in the case for a Grand State!

Thanks for the information Chief. It looks like there is an arguement for a lot of guys at that weight and that makes your job even tougher. The last weekend in February will be really exciting at 112 in all the classes.

The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital.

That's kind of a harsh comment to make about Schumacher beating Prescott. Up until that point, yes Prescott was Schumacher's biggest win this season. But just because some of the others aren't on the All-class list doesn't mean they aren't quality wins. I know it was last year, but what about Schumacher T-falling the #4 All-class kid in less than 3 minutes? Give the kid some credit. He's basically dominated everybody else. Chief, what's your stand on the cry baby rule? Do you think a match should be stopped just because a kid starts crying when he's about to be put in some sort of pinning combination?

i think "quality" wins definitely have something to do with ALL CLASS RANKINGS. i don't think chief meant any harm to schumacher. to be the best you have to beat the best. right? you are right about last year. last year goes into the PRE-SEASON RANKINGS, at this point in the season, last years means about as much as...........you fill in the rest.

I think I have adequately given Dylan credit. He is one of the best in Kansas and I hope he finishes strong!

That is hard to fix with TJ losing 7 matches, most recently to Bauerly and a 6-6 Haug. Nice win for TJ, but can't hardly rank him in AC.

Anybody who knows Schumacher, knows he doesnt need one man's OPINION to let him know just how good he is. Its enough for him and the people around him to know that he is one of the best (on many days I would say the best) at 112.

No offense but KU lost to Tennessee but they did not put Tennessee ahead of them. You have to look at the whole body of work. JMO

Come on MCL Lighty, you know that's impossible! A small school kid could never compete with the kids from the bigger schools. I guess that's why there hasn't been any discussion regarding him losing his first match on a RIDICULOUSLY officiated match. If it were the other way around, it would have blown up on the forum.

Rankings of any kind are by nature not exact. It is why we try to have a computer do it in college football and we know the impassioned debates that can cause. The "field of 64" in college basketball is always attacked by second guessers about what team didn't make the field. It is by nature OPINION.

Even if we had an "All Classification Tournament" and did final rankings afterward, we would still have some questions. What about a decision between even a ranking of 2nd and 3rd (if 3rd lost to 1st and 2nd lost to 1st and there is not a challenge opportunity)? This might create debate.

Even if there was an "All Classification Round Robin", unless everything fell in line such that #1 had no losses and #16 had no wins, and it fell out perfectly in between, there would still be conflicting outcomes. There would be wins and losses by more points here, less points there, pins that were "lucky" etc… and the debate would still rage.

Chief himself admitted that Schumacher was better than his #7 ranking. But you have to work as best you can with all the data you have at your disposal and then form an OPINION...and then, of course inevitably, address all the dissenting OPINIONS.

Take your own advice.

schumacher is #1 in the I.C.C.L Rankings.

what's up with all the pumpkin pounder references?

any wrestler worth his spit knows that medals are won with blood, sweat, and tears, not on some talk forum ranking thread.

no offense chief. i appreciate what you do, UNTIL you don't rank one of my boys then i wonder "what the heck is he thinking?" just kidding keep up the exhausting work.

I agree. Chief would agree. I believe those responsible for the I.C.C.L Rankings would agree. So let's understand the inherent limitations of rankings, either enjoy them or ignore them, and then enjoy what we can all agree on: watching some great kids excel.

My previous post was just to let anyone out there who was upset about the match for whatever reason know that Dylan has moved on and is becoming a better wrestler for it. Not to undermind Chief

Because then I would have to put Bauerly and a 6-6 Haug at #5 and #6.
