WICHITA - The Newman wrestling team has received letters of intent from Greg Delk and Steven Cooksley, head coach Ryan Smith announced Wednesday. Cooksley is a two-time captain at Topeka's Seaman High School, and finished third at the Kansas 5A State Championships, while Delk is the captain of the Skiatook (Okla.) High School squad, and is a three-time Oklahoma state championship placer.
Steven Cooksley (Topeka, Kan. - Seaman HS) Cooksley will join the Jets after a successful career at Seaman High School in Topeka, Kan., where he posted a 96-36 career record. A two-time placer at the Kansas 5A State Championship, Cooksley finished sixth in the 189 lb. weight class in 2009, and capped his high school career with a third place state finish in 2010. He was honored for his achievements by being named a First Team All-City selection in both 2009 and 2010.
