As stated above TWO finals results are wrong on that link.
103 - Reese Cokeley beat Luke Henes 5-2.
189 - Donny Parr pinned Jamie Barnhart.

I was sorry to see they did not hand out brackets to the Champions. I heard it was due to budget cuts. I think the bracket is often more prized than the medal. I'd pay 50 cents more at the door to raise money for brackets next year.

Lancer Lou, your right that was pretty crappy the boys not getting brackets, and I think they would rather have the brackets over the medals any day!!
But I would like to congradulate T. Moeder, SJA, and T. Humphrey, SMS for earning the Outstanding Wrestler Awards, great job guys!!

The last 2 tournaments we have gone to have not handed out brackets! Consensus at our house is they would rather have the bracket then the medal.

Nice! Just got an e-mail regarding the Wall Brackets and the team scoring corrections. There was an issue with the bracket delivery and the brackets will be delivered!
Thanks Dennis for your work on this! Thanks to Blue Valley also. Hospitality was a luxury!!

189 - Donny Parr pinned Jamie Barnhart. What was worse than the link being incorrect was that these results were reported to the KC Star incorrectly. Ryne was writing an article for a local newspaper and the editor sent us an email asking why he claimed his little brother won the tournament when he really got 2nd. How hard can it be to get the fourteen champions correctly recorded? Pretty sad that they didn't take their job a little more seriously.

Team places
Here are some questions:
What did the official say to Mr Cokeley during the 103lb final match? I bet all of the Cokeley haters will want to know.
How about those freshmen?
Two championships and two Seconds tonight. Lots of good battles to come in the future!
Cokeley - SJA-103 1st Henes - STA 103 2nd Dickman - MV 119 1st Williams GE 135. 2nd These guys are the future. Without them the tournament's future would be even more bleak from a quality wrestling standpoint. Official Angeblind J. was missing the "reach all the way around" start by Henes when he was on top so I said "Watch the hand, watch the hand". He promptly cautioned Henes and then told me to get into the stands. I moved the mandated 24 inches from the floor, where I was with 30 other people, to the first row of the bleachers. Just an official who wanted to make a spectacle of himself instead of just worrying about the action in the circle. This is a perfect opportunity to bring up what is sure to be a serious problem in the near future. At this tournament there wasn't a single official under 40 years of age. This pretty much mirrors all of the big tournaments and the state tournament. It is a genuine good ole boy system with no evaluation system and no process to point out the MANY mistakes that were made. If we don't have any quality officials that are 20-40 years old then our sport is in big trouble. AD's need to evaluate their crews and make sure they have a succession plan in place. We all know KSHSAA Rick isn't going to do anything so we better start taking care of this ourselves. I am tired of seeing the same old group year in and year out. The old guys need to scale back or retire and make room for some new blood. These guys need to take into consideration the countless hours these wrestlers and their coaches invest in preparation. They put on their stripe shirts with their big chips on their shoulders and come into the gym with an attitude of complete disregard for getting right all of the time, every time. Why? Because they can! They get a state tournament assignment every year no matter how bad they suck because there is no grading or evaluation system. This is another HUGE area where our sport can be improved with some KSHSAA changes.

They allow spectators on the floor during a match? Official Angeblind J. was missing the "reach all the way around" start by Henes when he was on top so I said "Watch the hand, watch the hand". I can't imagine why we have such a tough time attracting new people to officiating!

I did see a first at JOCO championship round. Take down was called at edge of mat Assistant questioned the call. After listening the head official changed the call. I have not seen this in four years of watching Kansas High School Wrestling. The other coach was not so happy but I think the officials got it correct.
The older I get the better I was!

My gripe with the Jo Co Classic is that we already wrestle these teams multiple times throughout the season. ONW will wrestle the Olathe schools at Jo Co, Olathe Duals, Sunflower league, Regionals and see 1 or 2 of them at various other tournaments. This is ridiculous. They will see BV and SM schools multiple times as well. We started going to Kapaun a few years ago and they added Derby this year to get out of the area. If they want to keep Jo Co, fine, wrestle it the week of league and combine EKL, Sunflower, Frontier and KVL to have the East Kansas Classic. League tournaments are nothing more than a title, might as well earn the title of Eastern Kansas's best!

League tournaments are nothing more than a title, That might be true of some/most leagues but I dare say, year in, year out, the AVCTL would be a great tournament.

I can't imagine why we have such a tough time attracting new people to officiating! Sport0, Your perception is invalid. The problem isn't attracting new talent it is that the old guard will not get out of the way to let the more capable in to aribitrate the matches. We do not have a normal distribution of officials by age and experience. We do not have a grading or evaluating system. It is nearly impossible to get a big tournament no matter how great you are unless you stroke someone repeatedly to get in. It is ALL politics and no substance. OMG, you don't think it is ok to sit on the wood during the finals when the gym is packed??? It is attitudes like that which are killing the sport. Look at the Ironman, Top of the Rockies, Beast of the East. They invite the fans to sit on the floor and ring the mats. It generates excitment. I was more than a safe distance from the edge of the mat and sitting down. Get something real to complain about like the outrageous property taxes you paid yesterday and where all those dollars are being wasted.

That is not the safety issue I would be concerned with by having people ring the mat or on the floor. It is a safety issue with people who can't hold their tempers during a contested match or a questionable call. One call goes against their wrestler and some idiot fan/father goes nuts. You've probably seen the type?

Mr. Cokeley I think your perception is invalid and a bit warped. I haven't seen or heard of any coaches on this forum or other forums that express your same concern. I am an avid fan and was at the Johnson County Classic and thought the officials did a very good job. Age, young or old, has no validity in how good an official is and should have no bearing on selection of officials for tournaments or post season. I know it has no bearing in college wrestling and other sports as the majority of officials are in their 40+ years in age. Keep in mind, just because a call may go against one of your kids or you get reprimanded for being to close to the mats, doesn't mean that official is bad. It just means that official is doing his job in enforcing the rules. My observation is that you look like one of those parents that like to complain to complain and that are living vicariously through your kids. Enjoy the sport. Be a fan, not a fanatic.
