Let me revamp/clarify... If I plan on him wrestling in our league or the regional tournament, I put him in the line-up regardless. However, I have had kids in the past that were just kids for dual purposes only as I did not want to have an open weight. I guess it's really a case by case basis and you have to trust the judgement of the coach knowing the kid well enough to decide what is best for the kid and the team.

Unless you are going into it with the idea of winning a big tourney like Basehor, I would schedule a JV meet for the same day; take the most experienced kids to the stud tourney and send the less experienced kids to the JV meet. There isn't a lot of point to taking freshmen with 2-18 records to a meet like that to go 0-2-barbeque, when they might compete better at their own level. This should be about opportunity.
