Eureka should probably not be ranked as high with their ranked 215 pounder not participating this season.

I think you are right in making the assumption that Hoxie will have more possible state placers on its team than Rossville. However, Hoxie has to wrestle in a more difficult regional than Rossville. This will leave a few of their wrestlers in the stands instead of on the mats in Gross Memorial.

In addition Rossville looks like they have a group of middleweights that could all tear through their brackets at state. This will give Rossville many bonus points with state finalist compared to the consolation placements Hoxie looks to get.

I would compare this team of Rossville wrestlers to Smith Center's team last year. Smith Center only had four state qualifiers but they still managed to take second because they had three state finalist and another wrestler come through the backdoor.

Maybe this Hoxie team will surprise me and can score a ton of backside bonus points like the 2004 Scott City team that won state.

The season is young, we will really see what these teams are made of come late January and February.

Why did Caney drop from #3 to not being in the top 10? Especially since Fredonia is now #5 and Caney defeated them in a dual 58-28.

I am adjusting the rankings today before the xmas break and then I am not going to look at them again until 2011. I have updated some things and have taken out a few wrestlers that are not competing. As far as a team defeating another in a dual and that team placing high in a tourney..it happens! We beat Auburn 45-30 and won 9 out of 11 matches in the dual only to get 2nd to them at our own tourney by 9 points. It is a fact of wrestling that you can be a good dual team and not a good tourney team, but I will look at it.
And as far as the above comment...Rossville is TOUGH!

Just to let you know Calvin Ochs of Hoxie finished below Cole Werner of Plainville and Trevor Kennedy of Lakin at the Hoxie tourney in the 125 bracket.

I realize Ochs was a state runner-up at 112, but he likely lost to Kennedy in the semifinals at Hoxie. Kennedy was a state qualifier last year that made it to the blood round at 119. Werner was also a state runner-up and that was at a 119.

Ochs is a good wrestler, however he does not deserve to be ranked ahead of two wrestlers he finished behind in a tournament "this" season. If I were doing the rankings I'd put him at the 6th place spot because Michael Vander Linden of Burlington has not had a loss and he placed 4th at 119 last season. However, Vander Linden did wrestle in a quad dual last night where he could have wrestled Humphrey of Fredonia and Wright of Eureka. Nevertheless, Ochs should not be ahead of Kennedy or Werner.

I've got another spot I disagree with you. At 112s Axelson of Plainville was pinned by Wessling of Beloit in a dual at the beginning of the season.

On the results it appears to read "WDF" which would likely be an injury default.

However, Hayes continued to wrestle at the tournament. The Guthmiller v. Hayes match happened after 5 PM on Friday. Then Hayes wrestled in a dual after 8 PM against Goodland pinning O'Harah. The next day he wrestled in a dual against Oberlin pinning Fortin.

So he may have forfeited one match due to injury but he continued to wrestle throughout the weekend.
