I think we should take this to the next level and do away with weight classes until sub district. Just have the kids weigh in Friday night, send the weights and ages in then the tournament can set up 4 to 6 man round robins with the five wrestlers closest to your weight and ability level. No one would show to a tourney and have a two man bracket or only wrestle twice to win an eight man bracket because of bye's. You would make it so there was never more then 3 to 10 lbs separating kids depending on age but it sure would do away with a lot of making weight problems. Then those that wanted to do the state series could work on the weight they wanted to wrestle. It really works, we used to do this all the time where I grew up.

Not to change the subject of this forum, but I agree with having more round robins and giving these kids extra practice. My son loves it. If we are going to spend hours there anyway let them wrestle.

I look though the list of places to go all the time. If it ever states ti will be all round robin, this is where I go.Some times we get real good maches, some times not so good. But we always get a good bunch of maches.
I think the weigh in thing is over reated. The dads, moms, coaches are the one woried about every thing. Most all the kids just want to wrestle. My boy can get beat by a kid 10 lb less than him just as eazy as a boy 10 lb more.He can also give back the same.

i wonder has anyone even seen a club or a kid cheat useing satellite weigh-ins. i am not saying heard of a club or kid cheating but seen with your own eyes if not i don't see how there could be a problem with the current set up unless your assuming there is cheating going on and then there still is not a problem because thats your assumption not a fact.jmo

They bracket at FS GReco tourneys after weighins, but there are a lot fewer kids at those than your typical tourney. I say there is NOT a problem with the way we have changed things to make it easier on people during the "regular season". Like has been pointed out, if someone is cheating now, they'll get caught at Subs, district, state..........
And, at a homesite weighin, if one of my kids or parents expected me to give them an allowance (unless a tourney has given one), I'd be insulted that they would expect me to do it. They'll either run or not wrestle.

Here is what I have seen. Ive seen people show up and say they weighed in here or there and not be marked off a list. So we try to verify but end up just checking skin and nails and letting them go. Ive had people want to do weigh ins out of their home. Since they are an open weigh in we said they must be done in a public place.
heres what Ive heard We have had people use bathroom scales! People give weight! People show up way after (or not at all) weigh ins and be marked off the list.
I love satellite weigh ins. But I think its sooo important for everyone to truly get behind them we must keep them honest, strict, and consistant!
Consistancy builds credability

I like satellite weigh ins. It just makes it easy on everyone and its upped the level of competetors. For instance were wrestling at EKC open this weekend, and have a darn good bracket with kids from all over. I believe that this is due to satellites to come to KCK from Wichita and have to leave early is one thing but to have to get here by weigh ins is another. Now we have kids happy made weight still getting up early but only have to be here in time to warm and wrestle.
As for cheating on weights? I admit I've seen a couple kids and weights and wondered if they really made weight? But don't really care or let it bother me, cause its the "what ever classic" tournament. They will still have to make weight at qualifiers and state when it matters. If a club lets a kids weight slide shame on them for setting a piss poor example and Saying its OK. But I for one can't name one coach or club that would do this not one. And I think that says alot for our wrestling community. Good luck Everyone and thaks to the clubs taking time and effort to do weigh ins
Jon Trowbridge Ive never had the fear of getting beat thats how most people lose.

When your son or daughter is already 10 to 11 months younger than the other possible wrestler, then the extra 3 pounds (possibly 7% weight diff) would even push it that much more. perfect example, your son is wrestling 10U and his birthday is @ the end of July so he is still the "younger of the older" kids, you don't think 7% body weight will make a difference as well??? I admit, my son has a crappy birthday for wrestling (parent's fault for improper planning:) ), but I was in no way insinuating "freaking out" about a few pounds. I was merely wanting some opinions of the matter, not to argue, just discuss.

Mat side weigh ins are a absolutely ridiculous idea. Leaving aside the horrible time strain it would add to every tournament. I'm all for growth and change etc. How does anyone think this is a suitable solution to anything.
And Jonny has a Dec 14th b day. Now works OK in Kansas but when we wrestle in mo. the age cutoff is as of DEC 31st. So were he is always on his down year sorta and he wrestles often in mo. so he takes his lumps and thats ok.
What are you going to tell your wrestlers in High School. A freshman is gonna wrestle SOPH, JRS and SRS. Encourage them to rise to occasion and don't encourage a athlete to except a lose for any reason. Its OK to lose don't dishonor it with an excuse. Jonny's 10under up year Ks This weekend he's wrestling 12under(his choice) now he'll likely lose some matches and that's OK as long as he wrestles well.

find solutions not excuses, i saw that on the holton video, posted on the high school site. don't make age or weight or anything else an excuse for your child, you are not helping them.
