I don't really think it's news. The guy didn't wrestle her... big deal. We move on. As soon as they have a womens only program like Texas, then my daughter will never wrestle a boy again. Until then, it's your choice, she don't really care. As for a boy touching her privates... Thank God you all support a boy touching another boys privates. What the Heck? Strange that you would go there coach. Just like there are guys locker rooms and girls locker rooms. To say we support guys touching guys? It has no other meaning than wrestling. If a girl butt drags a guy or has a reverse half, chest to face for 2 minutes, there IS a difference. Amazing that I had to explain that to you.

CONNIE: Dad, maybe being on the wrestling team can help me get into Harvard. Remember how disappointed you were with my application essay? You said my first draft lacked life experience. MINH: She right. Connie play violin, sculpt with metal and speak three languages, but what set her apart? KAHN: I thought being smart person in Texas set her apart.

Well thank God we agree on that. Unfortanatly, you go on to take it back into the creepy realm by making sound like becuase its a boy and girl it is all of sudden wrong but when boys do it to boys it is just "wrestling". You can't have it both ways. It is just wrestling when it is with a girl too. To make it something sexual is just wrong and sick.

I think it's kinda cool that he stood up for his beleifs and put them before a sport. He knew what was most important to him and did what he needed to do. Plus, he's only a sophomore and will get 2 more chances.

I am with you Mr. Earle, lets give girls their own competition. It is not right to put a young man and a young woman in this situation. It is a no win situation for the young man.

my daughter just texted me after reading some of the posts... it was more of the ones that were on the kids forum... but she said "I'm sick to my stomach"... I asked why and she said "I guess I never really thought about how many people pretty much hate me for doing my favorite thing in the whole world"... That truley saddens me and I did tell her that I don't think most of the people on here hate girls for doing this but it is more of a moral and ethical question. I just hope that everyone that is so vocal about the moral and ethical aspects of this will join me in encourage our KSHSAA in forming a girls only league that allows girls like my daughter to continue doing the sport she loves and also enjoy the opportunities that come with being a female wreslter at the college level. Understand that a girls program will take commitment and money. Yet so many of you are passionate about your moral obligations that I am sure I can rest assured that you will always support this effort.

To me, that kid defaulting to a girl is like him saying that she doesn't belong out there, that its not a girls place to be on the mat with boys! and THAT to me is disrespectful to the girl. It has nothing to do with hitting girls or opening the car door. It has everything to do with wrestling. You might as well say that boys that do wrestle girls don't respect them. I call BS

Quote from King of the Hill.....
HANK: I thought you were busy teaching girls to blow up basketballs. When did this turn into a desire to ruin wrestling? PEGGY: Oh, give me a break. I don't see how having a girl on the team would ruin it. Did a woman judge ruin the Supreme Court? HANK: Yes, and that woman's name was Earl Warren.

I think Coachjw's daughter's reaction ought to give all of us men an insight into the issue from the perspective of the person being discriminated against because of her gender. I'm all for religious freedom and personal choice, unless that religion or choice attempts to keep an entire class of individuals "in their place" based upon gender, race, ethnic origin, or nationality. We've been there, done that, and are fighting to prevent it around the world.
Let the young man make his choice and practice his religion. Certainly. But don't make him out to be a knight in shining armor for doing so. This was not gallantry.
And Ms. Coachjw, Jr. Who hates you? I admire you. You go girl, you can wrestle on my mat any day. Let Freedom Ring.

Great post Rford ! Telling it like it is. Its amazing that someone can say they are showing “Honor” and “Respect” when in fact they are doing the exact opposite! Don’t believe me? Just ask these young women.

I am surprised that people are so surprised by this. I started out in kids club back in the early 70's and girls were wrestling then. While some of you have been sleeping through your wrestling world, have you noticed that Krista Revelle has become one of the best wrestlers Kansas has ever produced?+
I take my hat off to the young man from Iowa. I am sure it was a tough decision to make, but it was his decision. It's not for us to judge, but honor. His decision is no different than her decision to wrestle.
I am sure she went into this knowing there was a chance that she could be slammed or feast on victory. Wrestling is about control of your emotion, control of your temper, and control of your ego, no matter the gender of the opponent. I am sure she has the respect of her teammates as well as her opponents. She's a great wrestler, no matter the gender.
Get ready - there are more and more girls coming. Trust me you will have to beat them because they are not forfeiting...and they're good. Girls know what they're getting themselves into.

I really hope you meant to say that Krista Revelle has become one of the best (if not the best) FEMALE wrestlers Kansas has ever produced. That I totally agree with. I have seen her lay the smack down on more than a few boys.

Rford thanks for the kind words and I can't agree more with your post. My daughters name is Summer and she wrestled at the Bluestem regionals at 119 pounds. she wasn't the only girl there. There was another girl that was a 103 pounder that was pretty darn good. I think she was from Fredonia. Nobody refused to wrestle the girls and everybody shook hands and had a great time. Summer went 1 and 2 and ended her boys season feeling pretty good about herself. I think I should go back to what a lot of you have said at the start and reiterate that it isn't really a big deal. It is a decision the Iowa boy made and we would honor a boys decision if he refused to wrestled Summer, I hope everyone will honor ours to allow her to wrestle boys.
