The second annual MoKan Classic will be held Monday March 7th, 2011 at 6:30 pm at the Labette Community College gymnasium. The three coaches for this years Kansas team will be Brandon Terry from Augusta High School, Eric Napier from Columbus High School, and Doug Vander Linden from Burlington High School. The tentative roster is as follows (still awaiting personal confirmation from a few)but may grow depending on the Missouri match ups. There will be a seven pound weight allowance. Please contact myself (albrighta@usd413.org) or James Renfro (jrenfro@usd442.org)to confirm or with any questions.
Thanks, Andy Albright

This is a great concept and idea Coach! SW Mo has some great teams to compete in this dual, Seneca, Neosho, Monett, Ozark, etc... Ethan Davis-Little match would be exciting to watch! Johnson-Skaggs, and too many more to name! What bout Colton Eck , Jake Gentzler, Sterling Terry?

Any chance of adding another 160? I see there are 2 130 and 2 145, why not add the Iola kid to the mix? Or add 2 more HWTs and have the Augusta and Iola Hwts that didn't wrestle this year compete.

My guess is there will be others added to that roster but why would you add kids who didn't wrestle this year?

Because it wasn't their choice not to wrestle. Maybe the Augusta, Iola, and Louisburg kid that decided to do basketball, will all go out for Federated State.

I don't know the reasons why each of these kids didn't wrestle but the dual is for "senior wrestlers". It would make a farce out of the competition if someone, who for whatever reasons, did not wrestle their senior season was allowed to compete in this all-star dual.

Pretty sure he is just joking...(also last time I checked he's not on the selection committee :))..either way Kansas won last year, I'm sure the Missouri coaches will bring the stoutest team they can. The selection process last year was spirited on this site.....but the best kids were selected. Labette did a great job of hosting the event. On a side note, last year an hour before the event, My son got a call (he was leaving track practice), Team Missouri had brought 2 heavyweights and he was asked to be a late entrant.....He was planning to go, just to watch and support the Kansas team....dug out his shoes and got to Parsons just in time....pinned his kid in the first. Crazy night.

What about Bo Newport? He is wrestling 125, but with the 7 pound allowance could possibly be 119.

Looks like team Kansas is based on an area circled by I-35. So if you are East or South of I-35 are you a candidate? I just want to know what the qualifications are...I think the more the merrier!

Here is a quote from last year's selection process by coach James Renfro: As far as boundries....When we met in August to hash this thing out, there were no real steadfast boundries set. Mo. line to Wichita area and Ok line to Burlington. Ark line to Carthage and Ks. line to Branson area. The name of the game was to create the best matchups possible. It was set up for a exciting night of wrestling at Labette Community College by a bunch of "old birds". The idea originated on the way back from the metro classic last year. "How cool would it be to have something like that is SEK in 10 years?" The plan was then set in motion and the smack talking was underway. It is meant to be an opportunity for kids to show case their talents, expose SEK to some fantastic wrestling, and possibly give a kid a chance to get noticed by someone at the next level. In the future, there may be more of an outlined boundry, but for now the lines are not real steadfast for the simple reason that the original founders wanted the best match ups available. I hope this answered any questions. I hope that a bunch of fans will attend and most of all the participants have a great experience. If you are interested in helping, sponsoring, competing, etc- please contact Andy, Daryl or myself and we can point you in the right direction. Thanks. So are Wichita area wrestlers not allowed this year? If they are, and you are looking for the most competitive team, I can think of 2 weights (130 & 171) off the top of my head that would be filled by Wichita wrestlers based off of head to head/"body of work".

Johnson and Corado are pretty salty a 130lbs.
Corado lost to Deshazer (sp?) in OT.
I don't think that Johnson has ever wrestled Deshazer. Hopefully we will see that match up somewhere in the near future!

Well, if Derby kids are eligible, then I'd just assume Wichita kids are too. And unfortunately, Luke Bean is only a junior, but if kids who weren't eligible (aka, screwed by the system)are allowed to participate, then I'm sure that Blake Bean will be more than happy to be apart (and probably pin) for the team. Send the invitations! P.S. I meant no disrespect to Corado, didn't see that he was in the list, only saw the first 130 pounder, with Johnson at 125.

dylan, get in touch with coach renfro or albright. that's the way to get in. then fans would love it, but not the way to get on the team. good luck. i know i would love to see another ks victory there.

My bad if I came across the wrong way, after reading through the posts, it sounded like an "invitation only" event. But just to be sure, are kids who weren't elgible for HS wrestling this year allowed to participate?

Dylan:
I sent Coach Albright an email asking him to contact Coach Dryden regarding your and Blake's participation in the event.

But just to be sure, are kids who weren't elgible for HS wrestling this year allowed to participate? It is a post season event not affiliated with KSHSAA, so unless there is a real crazy rule, I don't see what the problem would be. By the way Mr. Salyer gets a nice point on the day for helping Dylan and Blake out with a letter to Coach Albright.
