3 man round robin at sub-districts
kid A - #1 seed kid B - #2 seed kid C - #3 seed
Kid B and C wrestle match 8 Kid B and A wrestle match 15 Kid C and A wrestle match 28
Matches # 10 ended in a forfeit so Kid B only had about 15 minutes between matches that both went 3 periods.
Did kid B get hosed or not??? Not my kid so just wanted some opinions - high school 45 minutes between - kids federation???

You get 30 minutes unless coach and wrestler waive the requirement.

I believe the kid's rule is 30 minutes between matches, unless both coaches agree to go before that.

Rule 1-2-3
No contestant shall wrestle in two (2) consecutive matches with less than thirty (30) minutes rest between matches, unless both of the coaches and wrestlers involved agree to waive the rest period. This was taken from the kids constitution listed in the Rules link. In the qualifying tournaments especially this rule should have been applied.
"Everything we do should be for the future of our children."

I think that is the coach's error. Something similar happened to my son at sub-districts, but our coach told them he wanted the full 30 minutes. They gave it to him.

Thanks for the prompt replies and correct rule on time between matches... I hope this kid's coach reads this because I know that kid B was very upset about having to wrestle the #1 seed on that little of turnaround time.

I know that at subs in Pittsburg, they only gave my son a 20 min. break in between matches. They said that was the rule.

Wrestlers are not seeded for a 3 man round robin.

Pittsburg tried to get everybody to follow rules that were not really rules! I saw several instances of this. I saw a kid that had 13 minutes in between his match and they told him too bad! They also tried to tell everyone that they couldn't wrestle without thier shoelaces being taped because it was a rule. Then later someone looked in rule book and it was decided it wasn't a rule. What is up?

There is no kid's rule that states they must be covered and secured.

I know I'll probably take alot of slack for this but, any wrestler at any age in kids should be in good enough shape to wrestle every 10 minutes.

At Liberty Nationals you have a 5 min. rest on the last 3 rounds on the back side. That is why you need to make sure your kids get in good shape. Some times you can beat a kid when you are both gased that you may not or beat a kid that you have in the past that is fresh and you are not.

I am not sure about 10 minutes, in the younger kids it's not as much of an issue, but when you get into high school and college, the compeition level changes, the matches go longer, and people wrestler harder. I know there are matches where I came off the mat so tired that I could barely concentrate.

I believe I said in Kids, and I know how hard it is at the High School and the College level. At both levels we would wrestle a six to seven minute match let the big guys wrestle the same and then go again. This kid only wrestled two matches within 15 minutes at the KIDS level, I don't think he got hosed.

Hosed?? How do you get hosed when your done by match 15, or even 28? What time did they get home, 10:00? And they only wrestled in a 3 man RR to advance. Most of the tough weights in subs are 16 man brackets. You have to wrestle your but off, sit around, wrestle, sit around, wrestle, ect, ect, ect, and then be one of the last peaple out of the gym!
Dont look a gift horse in the mouth.

Did anyone ever think that the 30 minute rule could be there for more than just to give kids a rest? My son is in excellent shape and could easily physically wrestle another match in 5 minutes; however, much of his wrestling is mental. If he lost his last match, he would probably need more than 5 or 10 minutes to mentally prepare for the next match, especially if the next match could potentially eliminate him.

The next match in this scenerio would not have eliminated the wrestler. Mental toughness is what wrestling is all about, what a great opportunity to rise to the occasion.

The rule clearly states that you have 30 minutes. As far as the tape rule, the kids division goes by the High School rules UNLESS there is an ammendment to that rule. There is no ammendment stating that tape is not required. Therefore, tape is required. Page 17, rule 4, article 3. Eric Johnson
