a lot of kids wont wrestle at kids state because they dont want to continue to make weight. There is no 2 pound allowance and these kids have not made scratch weight since before christmas, why not add 3-4 pounds to the high school weights and you may get some more kids

Any kid can just go up a weight or even two, that is what most do. My kid has wrestled the series every year. Sometimes he goes up, sometimes he doesn't just depending on whether he was "big" for his HS weight or "small". The main thing is the extra competition/experience/"mat time", etc.

Hey Chief,
Just curious as to why you have Bean ahead of Butler at 215?
Thanks,

Sure couldn't help but notice that 5A, that is 5A, did I say 5A, yes I said 5A, has the most ranked wrestlers. Bet there were some kids that got beat out of the 5A state tournament that wish they were in one of those "easier" classes. I know that I had a real good friend who's son got beat out of that "weak" Ark City regional that beat two kids at the Derby tournament that qualified from the "beyond strong" Clay Center regional and I know for sure that he wishes he would have been in 4A at that regional instead because one of those kids placed at the 4A state tournament and he didn't even get to go and wrestle. Funny how things are, huh? If you are compelled to respond though, just start a new thread and we can hash it out with complete attention and not hijack this one in the process. Oh ya I almost forgot, thanks Chief for your time and effort. I really do appreciate it.

It works both ways. I'm sure some kids that didn't place at the 4A tournament could have placed in the 5A tournament. 5A does have the most ranked wrestlers but I don't think they are the tougher class.

I don't think they are the tougher class. i don't think that you can really prove anyone class is tougher, year to year, week to week, day to day, it changes. and as lucas and i proved you can make the numbers "prove" whatever point that you are trying to make. great job as always chief! i put more stock into your rankings that others like say....... the BCS.

Also Butlers final record was 44-3, 1 loss to the 5a state champ, 1 loss to the Missouri class 4 state champ and 1 loss to the Missouri class 4 state runner-up

Might help prove a point. it proves that the 5th place finish at 152 pounds in class 4a, was better than the 5a champ, on the particular day that they wrestled. i simply does not prove anything about the toughest class. see..... the numbers can be skewed however you want to turn them. thread hi-jacked. oooooops

Didn't you see all the smiley faces and the quotes around the words that I used. I never made a serious blanket statement that 5A was tougher did I. I know at my boys weight it wasn't. But I do clearly remember all the crap that 5A and the Ark City regional recently took and I wanted to spread them some love and give them some props after that recent very unjust tongue lashing. And Quagmire don't need no help willie424. Prove a point??? What the heck are you talking about? You didn't prove anything. All you did was disrespect a kid that worked his rear off by pointing out a specific weight and placing. I didn't do that with my comment. Shame on you. And now look what we've done, hijacked Chief's thread. START A NEW THREAD I said and I will be more than happy to debate/argue about it all day long and then anyone that doesn't want to read it won't have to.

Chief,
At 171, I think Zac Eaton deserves to be ranked a little higher than you currently have him. He wrestled the last month of the season with a "bad wheel". He blew out his knee I believe. Prior to hurting his knee he had at least 2 wins over Shirk of Norton and was undefeated. He also posted a win over Flanagin of Colby at Beloit who is ranked 5th.
He injured his knee against Shirk in the finals of the MCL Tournament and injury defaulted. He then injury defaulted and did not step on to the mat to wrestle Long of Southeast Saline at Regionals, so he has never actually lost to Long in competition even though he has the loss on his record. Two of Eaton's losses came by injury default.
This past weekend at state he gave Shirk a tough go at 4-2 in the semifinals. Eaton went on to take 3rd in the bracket. Shirk finished off a championship beating Long in the finals 2-1.
I can see where you would not move Eaton above Shirk and Long since both finished ahead of Eaton in the last tournaments of the year. However, I do not see how Flanagin can be ranked ahead of Eaton based on their head to head.
This is how I see the rankings at 171: 1. Reece Wright-Conklin - 11 - LAW - 6A - 37-0 2t. Dylan Penka - 12 - KMC - 5A - 38-1 2t. Taylor Baird - 12 - PRT - 4A - 29-3 4. Spencer Shirk - 12 - NO - 321A - 33-3 5. Brock Long - 11 - SES - 321A - 34-1 6. Zach Eaton - 12 - SC - 321A - 31-3 7. Andrew Flanagin - 12 - CLB - 4A - 40-7 8. Blaine Hill - 11 - SME - 6A - 39-6 9. Tyler Baughman - 12 - LS - 5A - 39-4 10. Tyler Hendrickson - 12 - BV - 5A - 24-6

Chief,
At 152, Kelly of Abilene posted a win over Rachow of Phillipsburg at Phillipsburg.
Rachow beat Braun of Hays at Hays.
Based on those results I think there should be a rotation in the rankings of the 8th through 10th ranked wrestlers.
Also, I'm not sure if you will move Tyler McMichael of Central-Burden into the rankings but he is another wrestler who could be in the mix for the 10th spot with Braun. McMichael's losses this year were to Kelly and Rachow, each were 1 or 2 point losses, so he might be in a tie with Braun.
Here is how I see 152: 1. Ryne Cokeley - 12 - SJA - 4A - 46-2 2. Chase Sanchez - 12 - EMP - 5A - 34-2 3. Sam Son - 11 - CH - 4A - 44-1 4. Connor Middleton - 11 - ONW - 45-1 5. Dillon Scanlon - 12 - LS - 5A - 38-4 6. Trey Houlden - 12 - GD - 6A - 24-4 7. Colton Duhr - 11 - AN - 4A - 33-7 8. Kane Kelly - 11 - AB - 4A - 40-5 9. Thomas Rachow - 12 - PH - 321A - 38-2 10t. Dylan Braun - 12 - HAY - 5A - 35-5 10t. Tyler McMichael - 11 - CB - 321A - 33-2

Chief,
At 125, not sure how you still have Wrestler of Chanute over Humphrey of Fredonia. Humphrey has the head to head win from a dual in December and his only loss was to Newport of Prairie View at Burlington in overtime.
Also, Wrestler took 6th at Beloit. I'm not sure if he was sick or injured but he finished below 4 wrestlers who qualified or placed in 321A this year. All 4 of those wrestlers finished behind Humphrey who took 1st.
With that I think it makes sense to have Humphrey over Wrestler at 125.

Chief,
I'm going to keep on my war path for getting small school wrestlers ranked and mention the state runner-up at 130.
At 130, you might consider moving Seth Miller of Goodland into the 10th spot for McComb of Derby.
Miller has lost 5 times this season. Two were to #3 ranked Kriss of Colby, another two happened during Regionals and State to #1 ranked Bainter of Norton, and he lost 2-0 to #9 McElroy of Garden City in at the Goodland Duals.
Miller has no wins over the top 10 at 130, however he does own a victory over Jacob Oertle of Kearney, Nebraska at the Oberlin Tournament. Oertle took second in Class A of the Nebraska State Tournament, which is the largest class in Nebraska.
I'm not sure if Miller's state runner-up finish in 321A trumps McMomb's non-placing in 6A, but I thought he at least deserved to be ranked 10th.

There is plenty of talent in 321A. The main reason that many placers are not AC ranked is their lack of quality victories. McComb has beaten Kriss, Lemon and McElroy twice among others.
