Just wanted to bring this back to the top. Anyone interested in their wrestler getting better and is in elementary school needs to sign up for this. Dal Eck will be putting the teams together right after state and coming out with details in the near future. Your child will get 6-10 top quality matches and meet many new friends. They will receive a cool singlet and be able to represent Kansas. Doesn't get much better than that. Dal will be taking taking several teams so get your name on the list now.

The problem I see with waiting until after the State tournament to make the team is that my son (6th grade 12u 80lbs) can Q for the Middle School Dual Team and that will be decided right after Subs. So, if he makes that team and then makes the Ele. team what we to do? Do you already have a plan for 6th graders in this position?

We went the last two years and my son is 7th grade now. If I were you, I would go to ele. duals. It will be all the comp he wants. You will have two years after this for middle school.

Here is the info for the Elementery Duals in Fremont, NE held on April 8-10, 2011.

We will be taking 3 teams like last year. The wrestlers listed below have committed to going and as you will see, we are far short of filling the teams. I ask coaches and parents to help us out. There are several kids who went last year that have not signed up to go this year. This event is for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders - as long as you are not 14 years old

The cost is $250.00 per wrestler. This includes a Team Kansas singlet, shorts and shirt, lodging and transportation to and from Lawrence to Fremont,NE. Will Cokeley is nice enough to let the dual teams meet at his Auto Exchange business and we load up in vans and leave from there. I alway order a bunch of t-shirts to sell to the parents, etc and we usually have enough money from the sales to buy at least one meal and provide all the water the boys can drink.

The team entry fees went up this year, but fortunately our hotel expenses will be less so we could keep the total cost the same. I have asked our state guys to vote on providing some future funding for these duals similar to what the other dual teams get. If that passes, the cost should come down a little for future years.

We will be staying at the Sleep Inn, 120 W Cathy Street, Fremont, NE - (402)721-8400. I have reserved 15 additional rooms for parents. Tell them you are with Team Kansas Wrestling and you will get our rate - $60.00 plus tax.

Here are the wrestlers (in no particular order) who have committed to going

50 Kale McCracken
55
60 Braden Lynn, Lou Fincher, Michael Spangler
65 Cody Phippen
70 Gunner Rairden, Gunnar Murray
75 Jonny Trowbridge, Lane Glover
80 Anthony Scanlin, Zach Eck, Allen Morabito, Brocke Budke
85 Nick Lucas, Tyler Price, Kaleb LaPointe
90 Dylan Newton
95 Caleb Wunsch, Quentin LaPointe
100 Michael Stack, Cameron Hughbanks
105 Daniel Butler
112 Clayton Peterson
120 Hunter Christensen
130 Tanner Sutton
140
160

I will be asking Mike Juby to post a link to the required forms for these duals.

Thanks,
Dal

Also, this is the same weekend as Brute so what are your thoughts on one vs the other!!??

I know you will get more matches at the duals than at Brute. As far as quality of the matches, I would think it would be better at the duals. Last year Christian had three in his bracket at Brute, so we opted out of that and went to Folkstyle nationals. So you can check entries at Brute and see who is in his bracket and decide from there.

Thats a great idea....to do that you just have to pay for the entries for both and then decide correct!!?? My son would be in the 4th grade 80lb bracket so i am sure there would be quite a few in that one but who knows....at the elementary duals how are the brackets set up? Is it like a 2 day round robin type of thing or what!!??

They set up pools the first day and then depending how you do in the pools. You are put into a bracket and wrestle out to the champion of each bracket.
On the pay part of the duals. In the past, Dal has you pay when you show up at Cokeley's dealership to head to Nebraska.

Dual tournament format. You Dual as a team against a team from another state. You will get 4 or 5 Duals against the teams in your pool on saturday. On sunday your team will be placed in a bracket based upon how you finished in your pool. Last year I believe there was a gold, silver and bronze bracket. You will complete the bracket on sunday. Usually 3 or 4 more duals per team.

G'sMoM,
Last year they divided us into Pools for Saturday. We wrestled 4 matches on Saturday to determine Sunday's bracket. Last year they had a Gold, Silver, and Bronze bracket on Sunday and placed each team according to their record on Saturday and overall points scored. Once you get to Sunday, the teams are placed in a bracket and you just wrestle it out like any other tourney. Each bracket on Sunday was an 8-man bracket, so the # of matches is determined by how you are doing, although after you lose your 2nd match, you still get another one to determine placing (5th, 7th).
We went to Brute 2 yrs and then chose to go to Elementary Duals last year. In my opinion, Duals is by far the better option and your kid(s) will remember the experience for a long time. It also gives them a taste of the format that they will wrestle in High School and they make a ton of new friends that they will have throughout their wrestling career.
