Richard just curious, and it would be a massive undertaking, but does this include advancement points? I can't believe that you or anyone does this, but thanks, it is fun to look at the "Mythical" (all respect intended) State Team Championship.

I was wondering if anyone knew where the brackets went? They were on the front page for a while and are no longer there. Can we get those posted on here again? I would like to look at them, now that they would be complete.

To my knowledge those brackets were never updated.

Congrats to Paola for repeating as champs. They performed much better in the finals than we did. I'm proud of our kids though. It seems that for every kid that didn't do as well as we expected, we had another that did better than expected. No excuses here.

Mythical title or not, it hurts a bit to come up short.

Brawlers Wrestling Club

Based on Current NFHS Tournament Scoring there should also be advancement scoring, 2 points for a pin, 1.5 points for a tech, and 1 point for a major. There should also be advancement 2 advancement points on the up side and 1 for the down or consolation side for a win. I realize this makes things even more complicated, but it would still be fun to see using the two formulas. One for just placement and one using advancement criteria.

I actually like the advancement and bonus point options because it gives value to a kid who maybe went 2 and 2 but didn’t place, and even value to a kid who goes 0-2 but don’t get pinned. Thus giving to the "Team" concept more value.

I do not think they have all the results posted correctly.

For example I only count 15 Derby Placers that have been posted, but Crash99 is showing that 17 wreslters placed from Derby?

Results posted are incorrect. 8U 64 2nd placer was Steven Marlatt from Derby not Zach Martin from Ellsworth.

I was just wondering, if Derby had won the team title would there be such negitivity towards the "mythical" title? I would like to know how it would have played out if we did use the advancment points to determin the winner, and if anyone would be able to beat Paola. The Brawlers (not taking anything away from the brawlers, they did a unbelievable job) only brought 22 wrestlers and placed 20. Paola brought 32 and placed 20 with a lot of kids close to making it. Derby brought 34 and placed 17,i am not sure on the exact number but it might be more. Congratulations to Paola for winning backs to back state titles. You guys put in your time and did an excellent job!!!

Negativity, can you explain where that is at????? I think Paola should be proud of their title, as a matter of fact I know I was talking to Mark Slyter and others about the likelihood they would win it even before the finals. The Brawlers were close, and they are a club I also greatly admire and respect but I thought that the numbers where just with Paola. As to my original "mythical" comment, it is exactly what “The State Title,” is, and has been for years. For example, can you tell me where the "official" recognition or trophy is for the title? It don't exist, that don't mean it don't make it fun though. As to my comment about advancement and placement points, that is the NFHS scoring system, to assume that we are using "their" system to determine a winner is not exactly true. We are using part of their system to determine the winner. With the numbers sent it would still more than likely be Paola. It don’t change the fact that at least I would be interested to see if the scoring would have been any different. 311Fan, don’t you think the contributions of all wrestlers should have some measure of importance when it comes to determining a “team” title? I do, I also believe that the NFHS’s do as well, which is why they use it as a part of their system. Then again, that seems a bit unfair for Derby Paola or whoever based on the numbers of wrestlers sent because they sent large numbers and pull from large clubs, with the exception of the Brawlers, which to me makes their feet even more impressive. Paola should be proud, they, and the Brawlers have great clubs, as does Derby. I hope you are not assuming that I was pulling just for Derby, if so there are about 70 kids I have helped coach over the last few weeks among which several of them with different clubs including the Brawlers and Paola will tell you that I went to them to wish them luck before the finals ceremony. Reading about the results from clubs like Russell are also impressive, but they would never have a shot based on the fact that they have fewer wrestlers and pull from a smaller community. As to 311fan please don't assume things are negative in any way, you are sadly mistaken and trying to make up something that just don't exist if you are implying that the posts on here have been negative. Truth is the only post I see negative is the one saying that Derby is complaining. I think any club should make comment if the initial reports were wrong, as the initial reports, for whatever reason, and I believe an honest mistake where as wrong as they were.

I know listening to the introduction of finalists, I thought WWC was going to be in the hunt it seemed like in the younger aged groups they had a finalist in 2 or 3 classes in a row. Great group too.

The club points have been posted, using the point system that has been consistently followed in prior years. I always wait a couple of days before doing this, since there are inevitably a few errors that come to light immediately after being posted. Hopefully the results are now correct. Where can we find individual results for state?

The 14, 10,7,4,2,1 system is what I used as I was trying to guesstimate where we would end up. When Richard posted the NFHS numbers, we went with that. I just assumed they had changed. Either way, we come up short. Furches is correct, with advancement points, a team like Derby would be a lot higher, based on advancement points for the additional 10 kids they took to state, that didn't place. Same with Salina, Colby, etc.

I didn't hear anything negative in Furches' post about the mythical title. He is correct, but if any coach tells you he or the kids don't pay attention to it, they are lying to you. Whether it ever becomes official or not, it is going to be used by us as a motivational tool to instill a "team" atmosphere in our room. Back side points from non placers has won state titles for many high school teams. Lots of times HS team titles are won by 1 or 2 points.

My only complaint about Furches is his boy beat one of our boys on Sunday. Pretty rude of him.

Doug, that boy has beaten my boy many times as well. I suspect they will be going at if for years to come. As I have said in the past, there is never any shame in loosing to the great wrestler that he wrestled on Sunday. I suspect they may have another shot at it again this weekend. I have said and will say again, Kansas has the best lightweight kids from top to bottom in the country. I will also say that some team named the Brawlers is likely the best club with numbers in the state. I wish Derby was there, they are getting closer but the Brawlers compete year end and year out with less numbers. Now that don't take away my respect for Paola. They have equivelent numbers to Derby and others and still win it, that says something, and their club should be proud of the work they do.

As to using it to motivate the kids. I would hope that every club does it. There are some things to be proud about, coming away knowing that your team accomplished and earned the most points at state is one of them. Paola, Brawlers, Russell, Derby, Ark City, whomever, congrats. Every coach needs to let their wrestlers know they are proud of them. Set goals for next year and good luck.
