Every year the Kansas City Star honors its list of Senior Scholar Athletes for each school in the Metro area. There are a lot of schools and I may have missed someone so if I did please let us know. I found three Kansas seniors who wrestled during their high school careers listed as their schools honoree for the 2011 Scholar Athlete. Here are the three I saw:


BLUE VALLEY SOUTHWEST
Geoffrey Wright

Ranked first in a class of 107 with a 4.55 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Earned three varsity letters in wrestling. EKL champion, three-time state qualifier, two-time state placer (fourth at 119, senior; fifth at 112, sophomore) and captain. National Honor Society, KAY Club president, SkillsUSA president, youth wrestling coach, Friends of Rachel.

College: Nebraska-Omaha

OSAWATOMIE
Zakery Grimes

Ranked eighth in a class of 80 with a 3.87 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Earned six varsity letters, four for wrestling and two for football. Three-time state medalist, three-time all-league. Two-time captain, All-Metro and regional wrestler of the year. All-league in football. Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Kays, The Nathan Project, Spanish Club.

College: Fort Hays State

WASHINGTON
Jose Romo

Ranked first in a class of 184 with a 3.90 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale. Earned six varsity letters with three in soccer, two in wrestling and one in baseball. All-league in soccer. Valedictorian, KCK Schools Student of the Month, Gear Up Scholar, Kansas Honor Scholar, JROTC.

College: Kansas
