sports information office

Benedictine head wrestling coach Cy Wainwright signed his first recruit on Tuesday when Horton's Kyle White signed his national letter of intent to join the newly formed Raven wrestling program.

"Kyle is a tremendous athlete," Coach Wainwright said. "He has excelled at all sports he has played in High School. His Father, Mother and Coach Speers has instilled in him a foundation that is prevalent in his daily life. Kyle has a bright future ahead of him and I look forward for him to do great things for Benedictine College Wrestling."

While in high school, White recorded a career record of 122-27 and was a four-time state qualifier and two-time state placer for the Chargers.

White is the first signee by Coach Wainwright and the Ravens wrestling program which will begin competition during the 2012-13 school year as a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC).

Benedictine becomes just the third NAIA school in Kansas to offer an intercollegiate wrestling program and will be the third member of the HAAC to offer the sport when they begin competition during the 2012-13 school year.

Kyle White, Congratulations on your high school wrestling career. Good luck with your academics and wrestling at Benedictine College.
