How about this
120: 1. Zac Gentzler – AC - 12 - 5A - 28-0 2-10. Tyler Mies – AN – 11 - 4A - 24-3 2-10. Dakota Leach – GD – 12 - 5A - 21-3 2-10. Jake Elbrader - STA - 11 - 5A - 19-6 2-10. Tyler Sharp - FS - 12 - 4A - 26-3 2-10. Reese Cokeley - SJA - 11 - 5A - 29-14 2-10. Marcus Phillips - WW - 11 - 5A - 19-0 2-10. Kian Clemens - MH - 11 - 6A - 26-8 2-10. Well I wouldn't go that far, but I might see a: 1 Gentzler T2 Leach T2 Cokeley T2 Mies T5 Elbrader T5 Sharp T5 Phillips T8 Clemens T8 Weil T8 Morgan Like I said earlier, with Phillips in the mix, 120 5A looks tasty. I don't won't to say anything can happen, but...

Chief I have watched your all-class rankings for years now and I think you still don't get enough credit for your hard work. Rankings are opinions and observations. People have their different opinions and that's how it always will be

Since it was me that started this whole 120 "ranking" issue. I say its gonna be fun to watch where the cards fall on the table. To bad Mies isnt 5A "just to raise the notch even higher". Gentzler will be hard to beat. Look at his past and his mindset. Gentzler has a way of coming out of top (He is solid), but Leach and Cokeley are hungry, especially Leach - because he has been beaten by Zac for so many years. No doubt Leach is looking for some payback. As I Said - this will be fun to watch. Personally - I think it will be a Gentzler/Leach Championship Finals Match. As for Cokeley - Next year might be his turn to be a State Champion again - no disgrace. In about a month all these rankings wont mean squat.

Chief just has a chub for the Cokeley's, nothing will change his mind. If he had just not beaten Mies twice. Add Stevie08 to the remedial class on criteria.

Chief, I was looking at the 5A rankings and if Mies is not in the mix, then Leach should be ahead of Cokeley in those rankings??

Sure, Chief gets plenty of credit. You just may not read about it all the time on the thread. I know I have given him tons of credit the past few years. I still enjoy bouncing my "opinion" off of him though when ever I can. And I believe he enjoys it as well. Chief gets lots of affirmation so don't worry about him, Hakuna Matata.
Now as for "opinions", Chief's rankings really aren't "opinions" I am compelled to say with all do respect. They are "rankings" based on data, lots of it, observations and statistics. I suppose you could say it is his "opinion" as to how the data is interpreted but I still say not really. Opinions are kind of like, "I like Wrestling better than basketball". Chief's rankings are more like, "Wrestling is better than basketball". Well some might consider that an opinion I guess. So how about this one. Chief's rankings are more like "Wrestling is tougher than basketball". Now that's not an "opinion", that's a "fact".
For me, my opinions are never "opinions". They are "predictions" based on very reliable and valid data. They are extremely accurate because I only think logically when thinking about the rankings that I am interested in. And remember, I never make any "predictions" about anyone unless they have wrestled my son or were in a bracket with him at some time, the ones that I have had an opportunity to study and analyze up close and personal.
Now as for Leach, I see both sides. I get Chief's reasoning. Either way, he appears to be wrong because it's kind of an A beat B beat C beat A, except that Leach and Cokeley have not wrestled, but they might at state. So clearly part of this will be ironed out in due time although it may not be totally, unless Leach and Mies go again.
As for now, I totally get way2funny's reasoning for Leach at #2 and I tend to agree. Leach has lost twice to Gentzler and to Mies in a match where he lead almost throughout until he got "caught", (at least that's what I heard with all due respect and I know a win is a win). He has three wins in common opponents with Cokeley (with all due respect to Cokeley, which he has earned). What about the other guys that have beaten Cokeley and are ranked behind him? Can they lay claim to being ahead of him? Just when I consider the body of work, I believe Leach is #2. But that is not a "prediction" I must admit, that is an "opinion", because my son has never wrestled any of them, except in practice I guess because he and Leach were teammates. So I guess you could say my "opinion" is biased. You would say that wouldn't you Chief? Nah, it's not biased because I only think logically when thinking about the rankings I am interested in. I really have no emotional attachment, I promise.

Chief something is starting to stink here. Bowen is right! Except that you can't make that case. Leach and Cokeley have offsetting commons. No head to head. Leach has criteria over Elbrader so it forms another one of those triangles that we all love.

Let me start out by saying that I am an addicted results follower. I have found myself scratching my head as much as my backside this year. The rankings are great and I enjoy following them as well and appreciate the hard work and time it takes to compile them. This is what I have concluded:
1) You never know when a wrestler who was expected to win a match was sick or injured and didn't.
2) You never know when a wrestler who was expected to win a match had a bad day and didn't.
3) You never know when a wrestler who was expected to win a match got dumped by his girlfriend the night before and didn't.
4) You never know when a wrestler who was expected to win a match was possessed by a wrestler of lesser skills and didn't.
5) You never know when a wrestler who was expected to win a match but ran into an opponent who had a different agenda that day and didn't.
6) You never know when a wrestler who was expected to win a match couldn't catch a break from the officials and didn't.
7) You just never know, although you think you do. That is where I find myself many times when I am following results.

WOW. I am amazed at the nasty words & tone directed at Chief. I think that he might be underpaid for this ranking job that he does. Is ANY ranking list perfect? So why get so personal? I think those nasty words are petty & ridiculous!! Last Feb my kid won an easy tourney & dropped from 5th to 6th in the rankings. I thought 'weird. oh well. someone must have had a big upset'. Next week, my boy won another easy tourney & dropped off of Chief's rankings. I thought "weird, somebody must have had a big upset yet again". I never thought "I guess Chief doesn't like me or my kids' school anymore. I need to publicly blast someone to make myself feel better". Since this is my 7th post, obviously I don't get out much. Maybe everyone is just playing and Chief is playing along too. Otherwise, I am STUNNED that adults make such nasty attacks on another adult over "just another fuzzy ranking system". He does the best that he can & I have always thought that they were very well thought out.
But the reality is that Chief's rankings do not have ANY factual meaning on future outcomes. Chief's rankings will mean EVEN LESS than that come 2/23.
Get over yourself!!

Kevin,
I would have to agree with you on this. The rankings are great and a lot of fun to watch. What it comes down it is this, there are so many factors that can change the outcome of where wrestlers are ranked and where they finish. So the rankings are something to follow, the final results are what counts in the end.

I have followed the AC rankings for some time now. And I have agreed and disagreed with them with the best of us on here. I do concur that the rankings really don't mean anything until the state finals are over. Myself personally feel some people get uptight about these rankings, as a couple of our all star teams rely on these rankings. Of course everyone thinks their kid is the best if he is on the AC list. BUT until we have a Grand State tournament we will NEVER know who is the best at each weight. (But this is another topic)
