I bet noone in 6a would be upset if you moved him again, maybe out of state, to maybe arkansas, or somewhere like that, to make it even easier......;)

If the kid is 160 or lighter I will take that bet. Any body can throw a HWT in and beat most of the wrestlers from 160 down. Now with this bet, it is like Diggs Town, he will have to beat half of the competitors in a 2 Day Tournament. Just because of the numbers I will give you 1000 to 1 odds. You realize this wrestler will have to beat 224 competitors. That will be quite an accomplishment. Im not sure how KSHSAA will count it towards competition points, but as we have all seen, KSHSAA doesn't mind looking the other way.

Dang Beeson, you are right. What do I owe you? I should have consulted with Mr. Williams (our forum practicing legal dept.) before sticking my neck out there with that alchohol induced statement and bet.

Let me know.

St. James qualified 12.

Worth mentioning...

Just five years ago they qualified 1.

Of the 12 qualifiers, five of them started wrestling their Freshman year.

I know of an actual situation where the 4a kid that would have been either 5th or 6th place at the Tonganoxie tourney would have most likely won the 5A regional at Seaman.I am sure that there are many cases as such. Also, this kid, and I would be willing to bet could beat half or more of all the kids that made it to state in 5 and 6A.

I don't know of any 123A kids that "would have" made it to state if they were in 5A or 6A although I must concede there are surely some, but I did hear that the GC heavyweight didn't qualify this year in a pitiful 6A bracket but did last year in 123A. And you just heard about Ark City's kid that was undefeated in 123A last year and this year has about 10 loses and didn't win the pitiful 5A regional. For every kid you could come up with from 1234A that "could have" placed in 56A there is a kid from 56A that "could have" placed in 1234A. Its really just time for everyone to get over the "weaker regional/state" thing. They are all tough lets say and it just depends on the weight and the year in a lot of cases. But it seems to be clear that the bigger schools generally have tougher schedules so everyone needs to get over the record thing as well.

I have always believed that one of the factors that results in Ark City being a periennial power in 5A is the fact that they venture south across the state line into Oklahoma to wrestle the Oklahoma schools. The Perry, OK tournament is always some brutal competition, and in those years that AC is able to either win or place highly, it bodes well for the season. Steel sharpens steel...

This year Ark City won the Perry tournament.

X, that was nice of you to call-out another classification and somewhat attack another and then finish by asking why can't we all just get along. Is this your Rodney King impersonation/:!

I see that 321A kid (and a few others) made varsity on their new teams. SMILE.....

doing great! And this year your coach shared the regional title of coach of the year, maybe next year he will win it out right. And you keep building Will, you might even be able to run for pope.

Sometimes there are truly bad regionals, for example, the free state regional this year, ark city might have had 14 champs there this year.

Seriously? Are you kidding? What comments have you been reading?
I have been in defense mode the whole time. Its Revolution, Schreiner etc. that were calling people out. And I aint asking anyone to get along, I could cares less about that. I didn't say "get along", I said "get over it".

The main issue with the Free State Regional was 24 byes (simple math, an average of three open weight classes per team). In my opinion, that is unacceptable unless you just can't fill holes in your lineup because there is no one there to give their all and compete. As far as quality wrestlers, there were still plenty to be found. Ark City has a great program with tremendous wrestlers up and down their lineup, but I wouldn't bet the bank that they would have finished with 14 Regional Champions.

It is obvious. 5A and 6a only have 32 schools because of their overall population, which makes sense, except for the fact that wrestling is not as big a sport in the larger schools. So, you have the huge populous schools with 8 man brackets, and even with the big population, the brackets look pathetic because they cannot even be filled. So, looking at it from 1234A perspective, there are a lot of kids that feel cheated, if nothing else, but to just say I made it to state, when some kids that are less deserving because of their ability and easier road to the State tourney get that right. I understand that is just the way it is, and like I said before all classes are even at the top, depth is the difference, which leaves out equally deserving kids. jmo

Umm, are we looking at the same brackets?

106 5 wrestlers records 24-6, 20-13, 18-11, 10-11, 0-8
113 6 wrestlers records 24-13, 18-13, 11-19, 8-17, 4-14, 4-16
120 6 wrestlers records 6-5, 11-21, 9-20, 8-21, 2-5, 2-10
126 5 wrestlers records 22-14, 27-5, 20-11, 1-5, 0-0
132 7 wrestlers records 25-8, 14-3, 13-14, 12-9, 15-15, 17-21, 3-16
138 5 wrestlers records 24-10, 22-10, 18-17, 9-17, 2-7
145 8 wrestlers records 26-15, 22-12, 25-22, 16-13, 2-11, 1-14, 0-0
152 7 wrestlers records 23-2, 23-12, 16-11, 18-19, 8-21, 5-21, 1-11
160 8 wrestlers records 25-20, 6-4, 13-20, 8-7, 12-19, 8-16, 3-6, 1-11
170 7 wrestlers records 34-3, 32-8, 20-6, 13-15, 12-22, 11-20, 5-19
182 6 wrestlers records 33-4, 18-5, 13-18, 10-17, 4-12, 2-9
195 6 wrestlers records 27-5, 11-14, 4-9, 2-12, 0-2, 0-0
220 5 wrestlers records 25-4, 28-16, 19-2, 0-11, 3-16
285 7 wrestlers records 30-12, 9-5, 13-10, 12-14, 7-12, 2-2, 5-10

The byes were not the problem here.

And the home team could only come up with 9 guys in a school with 1500 students?

Shawnee Mission West, 6 guys? really?

Shawnee Mission North with 9.

I think we are saying the same thing in one respect, but not the same in the other. Yes, the teams there did not fill their rosters as I said. Would Ark City have swept the finals, I doubt it. Just because the depth of this tournament was not there, you can't ignore the talent that is in the upper echelon. I believe that I complimented Ark City and it is a no brainer why. They eat, sleep and breath wrestling. Same way with a lot of the 4A and 321A schools. When you are in a 5A or 6A school district there are plenty of alternatives to getting your butt handed to you in practice everyday (Ark City doesn't count, they still eat, sleep and breath wrestling). Many kids choose the easy path. Please don't hammer the kids from 5A and 6A who choose wrestling and are good at it. Disclaimer: STA, SJA and Newton also eat, sleep and breath wrestling, but I think that Ark City probably has less distractions to choose the easy path - or else.

I didnt say WOULD have I said MIGHT have. yes the top guys are very good, I was not taking a shot at them, just at the lack of depth.

5/6A regionals 64 teams
25 teams with full rosters
16 teams with 13 kids
4 teams with 12 kids
6 teams with 11 kids
4 teams with 10 kids
2 teams with 9 kids
the rest had 8 or less kids

4A regionals 60 teams
4 teams with full rosters
10 teams with 13 kids
14 teams with 12 kids
6 teams with 11 kids
5 teams with 10 kids
10 teams with 9 kids
the rest had 8 or less kids.

The only reason the 4A brackets LOOK more full is because there are more TEAMS at each one, if they were 8 man brackets they would be even more empty than 5/6A.
