I know that this coach doesnt fall w/in the 5-6 yr wrestler to coach span, but ill say it anyways.

- Joel Rios wrestled for Emporia i think about 15 yrs ago. He was a state runner up his senior yr and GRAND STATE CHAMPION at either 98lbs or 103lbs his senior yr. The dude is a freaking pimp. He now is the head coach for SMS.

I'll go old school with Todd Drake he coaches at Andover (I think the origional not Central)...also I know that another former wrestler by the name of Bo Maynes of Salina South/Oklahoma University has been coaching the Norman kids club team with an OU teammate of his that slipped my mind, but I talked with Bo back at the Edmond kids tournament that was hosted at Central Oklahoma back around late November early December and he told me that he may end up back in Kasas coaching at....ABILENE!!!!!! Say it ain't so BO!!!

I know this doesn't fit the 5-6 year range but here's a couple more. Shawnee Mission Northwest has two former state placers as assistants, Quentin Hammontree (SMNW) 3rd-91, 1st-92 and Randy Hill (Wamego) 2nd-74. It did make me feel old last weekend at Bonner Springs when I sat across the mat from Zach Hemmerling. His dad, Dwight, coached me for two years at Wamego in 73 & 74. rh

We have three excellent young assistants on our staff at Baldwin HS. Two of them competed for me in high school.

**Jarrod Steffens, Scott City HS. 3x state qualifier, 4th as senior. Current Baker University senior, All-conference defensive lineman.

**Witt Hinton, Baldwin HS. 2x state placer (5th and 1st). Currently in pharmacy program at Johnson County/KU.

**Logan Corbin, Washburn Rural HS. 3x state qualifier, regional champion, school record 118 takedowns as junior. Current KU senior.

We also previously had another great assistant coach who has since moved on to his first full-time teaching/coaching job at Washburn Rural HS. Bobby Bovaird coached with us for four years while attending Baker. He was a 2x state placer (6th and 4th).

Kit,

Do you know what ever happened to Stan Higley? I wrestled with him at Ft. Hays and I think he coached at Baldwin for a while in the late 70s or early 80s. rhill

I am not sure where he is. I do know he coached here, I have seen his name. I can ask around and see what I can find out, we have quite a few hangers-around here I can check with...Merle Venable ought to be able to help me out.

Aaron,

Dave Karnowski and his wife now own a pet shop in Aggieville here in Manhattan its pretty darn cool too. I want to know about this whole Bo Maynes thing, cause I haven't heard one peep about that im sure that would have been said in the Abilene wrestling community ad it been true.
