I guess we just disagree. I reviewed all of the names and I think ALL of them will most likely be varsity and have better than .500 records. Mine might not as our line up is loaded this year but he will have an impact in the room and in the future. Nearly ALL of these kids have extraordinary accomplishments in the level they participated in last year. There are 30 listed here and that is a LONG way from every Tom, Dick and Harry although I am quite certain those three names are much less frequently used today as they were long ago. You say only 1/4 of these names will .500 or better records. I say 2/3. Talk you about this again in February.

My definition of an impact freshman would be a freshman who can place at the state tournament! We won't know that until then!

I agree with Will, Almost every kid listed stood on a State or National podium last year, (some did both) Nobody said they would be varsity. But, really Chad wouldn't you want quality partners at a high school level, to possibly push upper class men? I've watched everyone on the list wrestle for more than 8yrs. now and NONE of them are slouches. I guess the tale of "impact" will be told in a couple of months.

I never said any of those listed were not any good, I just said that I only see 7 or 8 that would make an impact. My definition mirrors that of Coach Prieto...a State Placer or at least one that will score points at State. Just being in the practice room to me is not an impact freshman. Some of these kids are very good but will not be Impact for various reasons: They are Too Small, they are on a loaded team and wont be able to make varsity to be able to help, or another impact freshman will be in their weight. No fault of their own, but they will not be an impact freshman. That is just how life is, just cause you try and are good does not mean you will be listed. We can start a list of freshmen that were good in little league and we hope will do well if that would make everyone feel like a winner.

"Quality partners"?? That is dependent on the room! I still say "impact" is someone who can place at the state tournament regardless of grade!! I know kids get hurt, don't make weight and won't have that chance of placing but if they make the state tournament and as Chad said score points or place then that is making an impact! Yes I want my VARSITY kids to have good partners but those partners don't score points at the state tournament! Like I said we will see who all makes an impact come February! I'm hoping for a few impact freshmen!!!

The Confusion comes because we are using a term that was originally used for College Freshmen in Football and Basketball. Scouts would say a kid was an impact freshmen, meaning they would start their freshmen year and make a difference on the playing field. The coaches would still recruit other freshmen to build their program but knew the others would need a red-shirt season plus a year or two to be an impact player. I think that everyone on the list will definitely be an impact player their Jr. and Sr. year, but I only see 7 or 8 that will be impact freshmen. AND, I GUARANTEE THERE ARE 2 OR 3 FRESHMEN THAT HAVE NOT BEEN NAMED THAT WILL BE IMPACT FRESHMEN.

I still say 2/3 will have winning varsity records and 1/2 will be state placers. Those will be instant impact freshmen but clearly the phrase "impact freshmen" is very gray and wide open for interpretation. I agree that some have been missed... Tyler Flood, Brock Budke, Jonathon Ball, Colby Johnson, Tate Carney should ALL be state point earners.

I think the term impact is relative to each team. An athlete can impact his team and program without impacting 4A or 6A or whatever, and for my time I would just as soon see as comprehensive a list as possible, to give us all something to do and talk about this time of year.

Those were my top 8 when I first posted. I can't guarantee theses guys will be impact freshmen, but I like their chances. I'm also sure a couple may make an impact that I didn't think would for whatever reason.

Hard to argue with that list. I would also agree that to be considered an impact wrestler said wrestler would need to place at State.

As a ranker, I attribute points to a projected placer as well as a wrestler that scores points at state. In my opinion, points at state make an impact for your team.

You will find 0 western KS, 0 eastern KS, and 0 north central KS kids on this list. Either it is bias or a limit to Beeson's geographic range he is capable of evaluating. Maybe both?

I don't want to remove anyone but I will guarantee these two, barring injury, will be on the podium in March. Tate Carney and Tristan Porsche

My top 7 would be: Anthony Capul-a beast of a freshman, he has won a lot of big tournaments and really showed himself at folkstyle nationals Kendall Frame-Almost went undefeated at Schoolboy Duals and won Folkstyle Nationals, in the past he has won Tulsa as well. Will be in 6A could potentially meet up with Deshazer. Paul Stuart-He has done very well with I believe 3 kids state titles in a row and has been on many dual teams I have coached and has rarely lost on any of them. In 5A could run into some guns if he is at 113. Clay Lautt-He was a folkstyle national runner-up and has wins over Frame. He has also won 3 state titles I beleive as well. He is extremely strong and aggressive. In 5A with a projected weight of 125-130. Might run into some guns their as well. Corbin Nirschl-He dominated at Kids state and he had 7 wins at Cadet Duals coupled with his wins over Rosen at Southern Plains. He will be huge at 106. Thomas Lisher-When he is on, he is on. He won kids state with the likes of Maki, Pemberton, Kester, Joint and Delforge. Mason Wallace-He is another kid when he is on, he is on. He beat Pool in the state finals last year that knocked of Kendall Frame.
