Looking back at this thread...we have really watered it down. Someone pick the top 5 or 10. Also, lets get rid of those with easy schedules, and there are plenty on this list that had easy schedules. Let's name the top ten.

Hands down, the #1 Kansas wrestler of all-time is Melvin Douglas.

Domestically, he won eight U.S. National titles and was a member of 11 USA National teams. Internationally, he made six World teams and two Olympic teams.

In 1989, after becoming one of a handful of Americans ever to win the Tbilisi tournament, Douglas placed second at the World Championships at 180.5 pounds. Four years later he reached the pinnacle of the sport at the World Championships in Toronto, Canada, winning the gold. He followed up that success with bronze medals in 1994 and 1995.

Obviously great credentials.............but what again does this have to do with Melvin's prep career. I think too many people are drifting away from the MAIN TOPIC of this post.

How tough was Ark City's schedule back then? Give me some quality wins. I take Moeder's accomplishments over most, double AA at Fargo (including a National Championship), runner up at Senior Nationals, lost to no one his Jr and Sr (except for a bad FM call) and SJA wrestled the toughest schedule of any KS school including his bump up win over 3xer Chase Nitcher. Heck, speaking of schedule toughness, Ryne had wins over three OK 4xers (Ian Fisher, Zach Beard, Jeremy Davenport)most guys don't see three four timers in their whole career.

He beat Temore Terry a handful of time including the State Finals. He lost one match his Sophomore year in the Perry finals, and this is back when Perry was the toughest tournament in OK. Undefeated his Jr. Year beating a Freestyle National Champ in the finals at Perry. Pinned or Techfalled everyone at State that year. His Sr. Year he had one loss in the Perry finals to a Freestyle AA. This was back when Midwest City was the recruiting hot spot for Oklahoma and they would beat Ark City by 100 points. Ark City would win any KS Tournament with the 6A, 4A, 321A State Champions there by 100 points. At the time I can say Ark City arguably had the toughest schedule in the state. Ware also won High School Nationals his Sr. Year.

And a Loss is a Loss bad call or not.

He was winning handily and was called for FM on a hard collar tie. It was a misapplication of the rule and totally ridiculous.

Senior nationals impressive. Beating Temoer his FR year not so much. State is not a good measuring stick. When you are really good the competition runs many times fleecing your bracket of quality competition. Perry was tough back in that day. Why no GR/FS accomplishments?

I don't think Ware lost to a Kansas opponent from the 5th grade on.

No GR/FS accomplishments because he liked baseball too much. He was a 3 sport standout for Ark City. It's hard to get kids to go out for GR/FS current day, it was even more difficult 30 years ago.

Yes his Sr. year the bracket was pretty empty. Pinned everyone in the first period I believe.

Growing up in El Dorado I can tell you Ware was a very good baseball player. Great competitor.

"Take me out to the ballgame" that is my biggest issue with FS/GR. I love baseball but you have to forgo it to be successful in FS/GR. It is hard and I don't understand why anyone would rather stay home and play video games instead of hitting the road and seeing the best in the country all summer, unless they love baseball, then I understand. What I hate is the Football coaches holding playing time over wrestler's heads to they can't wrestle in the summer. Really ticks me off!

I thought about mentioning Scott before but I didn't know his HS credentials. Good addition to the list. Kenny Fischer should be mentioned too. 3xer with a D1 AA at OU to go along with those titles.

I agree Parker, Coleman was a beast. You can't forget about Boaz Beard either. Unless I'm mistaken, he never lost a high school match.
