It is very impressive how so many tournaments are stepping up and supporting this very worthy cause that is so important to the future of college wrestling and our future young wrestlers in the state of Kansas. As a member of the Kansas wrestling community I too want to thank all of you both tournaments and individuals who are stepping up to support this Kansas College Wrestling Fund.

It is very inspiring!

It was good to see the Kansas College Wrestling Fund table at this tournament. This tournament is really what it is all about. So many of the college wrestlers participating today at this tournament have wrestled for many years in USAW-KS youth wrestling tournaments. Many of these young men were wrestling ten to fifteen years ago all thru Kansas youth and high school tournaments. It was great to see so many of them getting the opportunity to still wrestle in their college years in Kansas. I don't how many times I heard the tournament announcer say that both wrestlers were from Kansas high schools.

This is what this fund was established for about eight months ago to benefit the future generations of Kansas youth wrestlers so they can further their higher education and continue to wrestle in Kansas during their college careers. This fund will mainly benefit in the future the young kids who are wrestling today in Kansas high schools and especially the very young wrestlers currently in the youth USAW-KS wrestling clubs. This KCWF fund is establishing a strong foundation for them that will help insure that there are college wrestling programs available for them in the future.

The Fund is in its first year and has received contributions from individuals, clubs and from tournaments especially youth tournaments in District I. We need to build on this momentum. I urge every individual to consider personally donating to this fund. Make the committment to add the Kansas College Wrestling Fund as one of your annual donations. Also I urge all clubs to consider fund raising for this Fund. A good way to do that might be thru contributing a $1 per ticket and/or entry fees as many clubs have already done. Clubs could find other ways to fund raise too for the Fund.

This has got to be a state wide effort for it to be successful. All individuals, clubs and high school programs need to participate. I know many of you would like to have a D-I program in Kansas. I believe if over a period of years we can strongly support this Fund that we will show that the Kansas wrestling community is willing to financially support college wrestling in the State of Kansas. This would be a very strong message to potential D-I programs at WSU, KSU or KU.

I hope the entire Kansas wrestling community will step up to do this across the state of Kansas. Thank you very much to all of you individuals and clubs that already have.

Please consider sending the KCWF a contribution today.

This was posted in the high school forum but I thought it would be good to post it in the youth forum topic too so the parents of youth wrestlers could see how many of these college wrestlers at Kansas colleges have come from Kansas youth wrestling clubs and/or Kansas high schools.

I thought after reading your post that it would be interesting to expand on your list so the Kansas wrestling community who like to follow the progress of their Kansas ex youth and high school wrestlers to see how they did in the Kansas Cup. I will start with the 125 weight class.

125:

1st- Jeff Vesta- Neosho CC-Manhattan KS - Manhattan HS
2nd- Garret Jones- Labette CC -Oxford KS - Arkansas City HS
3rd- Bo Newport-Baker University-Fontana KS-Prairie View HS
4th- Collin Hase-Fort Hays State-Silver Lake KS-Silver Lake HS
5th- Brandon Goodwin-Bethany College-Lawrence KS-Lawrence HS
6th- Jordan Krenek-Newman University-Austin,TX-LC Anderson HS
DNP-Zach Hoehn-Pratt CC-Wellsville,KS-Wellsville HS
DNP-Marco Tamayo-Colby CC-Carrollton,TX

133 Weight Class will be reported next.

If I made any errors above, please post the corrections so I can edit the list. Also if you know the youth wrestling club that any of the above wrestlers wrestled at, it would be good to mention it on this topic.

If you live in the vicinity of Baldwin Kansas you may want to take your young wrestlers to a college dual tonight 6 PM at Baker University. Baker University, NAIA #10 national ranked team has a dual match against Oklahoma City University #5 ranked national NAIA team.

A recent request was made to the KSHSAA to set up a KCWF information/donation booth at the high school state tournaments. We were denied because of a policy that allows only one vendor with an "exclusive merchandising agreement".

Below is the response:

Mr. McCarthy:
Thank you for checking with the KSHSAA in advance. There are two key points for you to know:
1. KSHSAA does not permit vendors or exhibitors at its post season events
2. The KSHSAA has an exclusive merchandise agreement with a contracting company to vend KSHSAA state championship shirts etc. NO other organization may sell or give away items of any type.
In accordance with the above, your request to set up booths at any and all KSHSAA state wrestling tournament sites cannot be approved.

We will be cutting a check to the KCWF for $921 this week. We had 921 wrestlers at St. James Academy this weekend and we collected an additional $250 donation from the Lawrence Elite Club. Awesome weekend for the KCWF!!!

Wow, This is great. In the last week it looks like the KCWF has received pledges of $2,671.

USAW-KS Kids Executive Board $1,000
St. James Academy tournament $921
Lawrence Elite Club $250
Linn County Twisters Club $500

This is the type of support that the Kansas College Wrestling Fund needs to succeed. Great work to all of you and thank you to all who were part of these contributions.

The entire Kansas wrestling community needs to support this Fund to help Kansas college wrestling and educational opportunities grow in Kansas.

It would also be great if all individuals could make a personal annual contribution to the fund. Just think what the Kansas College Wrestling Fund could receive each year if every member of the Kansas wrestling community could donate at least $120 a year to the Fund. That would be $10 a month. I know not everyone can afford that but many could do more. I believe that personal annual donations from members of the Kansas wrestling community will be an important revenue source in the future for this fund. This would include individuals like myself whose son is at the tail end of his wrestling career as a junior in college. I intend personally to continue to send annual personal donations after my son's wrestling career is over. I personally believe in what the Kansas wrestling community has done for my son and our family and I intend to support it thru my contributions to this Kansas College Wrestling Fund and I urge all or you to do the same. You may not be able to afford a $120 annual donation or more right now but if you can afford any amount send your first personal donation in. Any personal donation amount would be appreciated. The important thing would be to get started in 2012 as a donor. Become a personal donor to the Kansas College Wrestling Fund. Let's contribute to the growth of college wrestling in Kansas!

I wanted to show prospective donors to the Kansas College Wrestling Fund just how many former Kansas high school and youth wrestlers are currently wrestling at the ten Kansas colleges and Universities that will benefit from this Fund. I have compiled a list for the last three years of Kansas High School Seniors who have signed to wrestle in college. I have listed the three years below and I have highlighted in Red the ones signing to wrestle at our Kansas colleges with wrestling programs. Your donations to this fund will benefit these wrestlers and those who will follow them. Please consider becoming a 2012 donor today. As you can see in my last post that is a lot ex Kansas youth and high school wrestlers who are now wrestling and furthering their college educations in Kansas. As you know in our new economic world it is very difficult to find good jobs. Statistics show that on the average people with college educations have an easier time finding jobs and earn more money in their careers. I think that is going to be even more important in the future. Look at that list of young men who are now wrestling at Kansas colleges. You have to wonder if all of them would have been attending college if not for the opportunity that college wrestling is giving them. You can see they are from all over our State of Kansas. That is why Statewide support is imperative. We need everyone to contribute something. I have put up a goal of at least $10 a month or $120 a year for individual donors. But if you can not afford that send in what you can afford $5, $10, $25, $50 or whatever you can afford at this time. The important thing is to start now and become a donor in 2012. I would like to see at least 500 individual donors in 2012. Even high school wrestlers and college students who work in the summer can probably afford to send in a small contribution and it would be an important start to a lifetime of giving to the sport that has done so much for them. I believe we should easily be able to build a base of at least 1,000 individual donors in five years. It would be disappointing to me if we did not. Do you agree?

Below you will find who to make the check out to and where to send it. You will also find a letter that the Kansas College Wrestling Fund made out to promote individual donations. Please consider become a donor in 2012. Promote this fund. Read the letter and think of all these young men that I have listed and the future ones now in Kids and High School wrestling in Kansas. Let's not let our Kansas college wrestling programs go away like the UNO and other programs have. Remember once upoon a time Kansas University and Kansas State University and a few other Kansas colleges had wrestling programs. We need to stop the dropping of college programs and contribute to continue making college wrestling programs grow in Kansas. By the way I can send anyone who is interested a better looking copy of the letter below and an official donation form if you want one. Just send me a personal private message requesting whatever form you are interested in.

Dear Friends of Wrestling:

The time has arrived for the Kansas College Wrestling Fund (KCWF). We have partnered with USA Wrestling-KS, the Kansas Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association, the business community, and our Kansas Wrestling families. Respectfully, we ask your consideration for a donation to our “KCWF Forever Fund.”

Far too many college/university wrestling programs have been lost the last few decades. The recent announcement that perennial NCAA D II powerhouse U. of Nebraska-Omaha (UNO) discontinued its wrestling program shocked the entire wrestling community nationwide. Who would have thought that a university whose team had just won its third consecutive National Championship would be dropped? Given this happened to a stellar program recently, we all acknowledge any and all college wrestling programs are now vulnerable.

Every time a program is cut, our student athletes lose their chance at a college wrestling and educational experience/opportunity that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. How do we combat this erosion of college wrestling programs in our nation, and in particular, in our state of Kansas?

We believe that the wrestling community (wrestlers, parents, coaches, referees, fans and other interested parties) needs to step up and financially support our current in-state programs. Let’s build a fund that will give a noticeable and strong level of support to our existing Kansas college programs. By participating in the “KCWF Forever Fund” college wrestling opportunities will be alive and well in our state for decades to come!

The KCWF will be a “Forever Fund.” It will serve the wrestling community for decades to come. For this initiative to become successful we ALL need to support it with our financial contributions, talent, and time.
There are many ways to customize your contribution and any assistance provided will be tremendously appreciated. No donation is too small! If you personally cannot contribute, that is understandable. Perhaps you know of someone or a business that will be interested … feel free to pass this letter forward.

In closing, please consider the “KCWF Forever Fund.” And please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions. Thank you very much for your time and consideration for the Kansas College Wrestling Fund!
