According to the matrix about 5. Awesome idea really short notice for some of us a lot going on that weekend. Hope it doesn't flop and never get brought up again.
Jon Trowbridge Ive never had the fear of getting beat thats how most people lose.

I agree! I think a super idea but such short notice I hear a lot that cannot go. Hope we can do it again in the future.

I know a couple of you that posted, but I'm sorry, I'm calling BS. I feel like we have bent over backwards trying to give the HS kids a chance for more mat time, and for the BEST to meet each other in front of a LOT of people. My opinion is that if the HS kids don't take advantage of the Kansas Throwdown idea (Grand State), then we should answer the lack of appreciation by the HS kids, by getting rid of the HS division in the kids series, and moving the 6u in with the current Topeka state tourney. By the way, this is the last thing I really want to happen, because the 6u state, and Elementary State/Duals team qualifiers at Salina is an awesome event. If 6u moves to our state series, I guess we could combine the Elementary and Middle school tourneys for their respective dual team qualifers......
A kid has the right to pass on this opportunity, no doubt, no one is going to hold a gun to their head. But short notice isn't an excuse. What was there to prepare for? If you prepared for state, you are prepared for Throwdown/Grand State. It's on a Sunday, the day after either Classic tourneys and the NAIA tourney. And I'm not pretending to know everyone's schedule with other aspects of their lives. So I think the kids should take advantage of it and be able to say "I showed up to take on the best"....
I'm a little worried about Trowbridge being upset with me, but I don't care if I hack off Miss Jenni, cause I can whip her tail... Maybe........

It sounds like a good tournament. I saw information out on this in January and confirmed on February 12th. I just wish they were having the weigh-ins on Sunday morning. Doug, Owen is to young to wrestle in this one. Good to see you back on the forum though. I talked to quite a few guys at Hartman, and they sounded like they would be in. See you all there.

I believe we are working on various satellite weigh ins. We could easily accommodate them in Hays and Wichita.

Definitely offering some satellite weigh ins would make it an easier "yes" decision.

I'm not bothered by words on a screen. Its being yelled at I don't like lol. And we are still up in the air on whether we will go or not. Power lifting state is this weekend for the Basehor boys. We will have to see if our schedule will allow it. Though I'll admit the thought of wrestling some of the state champs will make dad nervous. Jon lost many matches and will lose many many more. We'll just have to see what shakes out. Am I over looking the cutoff date or is there one?

Had no idea that tourney was this weekend, and have no idea how many wrestlers that will make miss this tourney.
Now I already put my foot in my mouth about supporting this event, I realized that I can't make it to support and watch, because we have our D2 seeding meeting this Sunday that I forgot about!!
I guess whether I get to watch or not, I want to KNOW who the baddest man in the entire state is, at each weight class. All of those conversations we have in the stands at 4A state, saying things like "4a is tougher in this weight class, 5a is tougher in this class, 6a in this one, etc. etc...." would be wasted breath. I hope we get the best of the best to wrestle in it. Obviously, without your son, being 4A state champ, it would not be as intriguing.
Make you nervous? I doubt it. You've always driven as far as you needed to drive to find someone that could whip your son. Selfish me would like to see all of those 126 kids in one bracket!!

This is the problem for many of us! I reread my post, and wasn't clear. The tourney I did NOT know about was the powerlifting tourney, and wondered aloud how many kids would miss the Throwdown, because of powerlifting tourney. I knew about the THrowdown from back in January I believe when it was first announced.

Let me add that the powerlifting folks would probably get a lot more participants if they had it later in the spring, AFTER wrestling is over, so kids are back to full strength.....
Might have been part of the problem with the plan to add HS kids to Kids state series. Too far away from the end of HS season, so a lot of them don't do it. Out of shape by then, gained too much weight, etc. etc....If it were closer to the end of HS season, maybe more of them would have participated in it. This weekend is the best weekend to do it, so there should be no excuses about being out of shape, not cutting, cutting too much, etc. for those that go and compete.

Power lifting is completely new to us. I agree it is at an odd time? but power lifting is huge at Basehor. And Doug I wouldn't count us out of participating this Sunday. I wouldn't mind seeing how Jonny hangs with some other 126ers. Plus my understanding is this tournament is going to help Chief Renegade make decisions for the Colorado dual teams
