I saw a couple at the JV Onaga tournament. One was at 140 lbs and one a bit heavier I think. That is all I know.

I can't imagine wrestling some good looking gal. Might cause a problem after I walked off the mat.

If you've wrestled a girl this year in high school or watched as your teammate squared off against a girl, you should think about nominating her for the All-Kansas Girls HS Wrestling Team. The nomination forms are on the Kansas Krusaders web site - which you can link to from this site by clicking the GIRLS DIVISION link on the left side of the page. The deadline for nominations is Feb. 18, 2005. These wrestlers put up with alot just for the opportunity to wrestle. Some have a fair amount of success against boys. It's time we recognize their efforts and their contributions to their teams and to the sport of wrestling.

i dont think gurls should wrestle after the age of 13. cause if u grab sumthing ur gonna be embarrsed. and if you get rough with them its not right. cause ur not spse to beat up gurls

Hey michael, I'm pretty sure more people have problems seeing a guy-on-guy match, two sweaty guys all over each other grabbing and getting tangled up in each other's legs, I don't know about you, but a match between a guy and a girl is a lot more on the moral side of things. Plus, I know for a fact that girls out there just want to wrestle, they don't want to make a scene, or get special attention, so wrestle them like anyone else, you never know when you might be losing to one.

Yea the herrington girl looked like she knew what she was doing and a pretty tough chick to wrestle. I have no problem with high school girl wrestlers except for the ones who cry. And maybe once wouldnt be bad but there is a particular girl we only see once a year at one tournament and im pretty sure she's considered one of the better ones and she cries almost every time. Im sure its over 50% of her matches. To me thats stupid, if she's crying like that she probably shouldnt be on the mat.

I have no problem with girls wrestling as long as everyone fully understands they get no special treatment. I've seen girls with good records heading into state, but they're usually 2 and out. They can beat some slappies, get some forfeits and can't hang with good wrestlers once Regionals and State roll around

If this were the case, girls in wrestling would be much more prevalent. I personally believe most fathers do not WANT their daughter on the wrestling mat with males. Girls wrestling other girls is another matter entirely.

Mike, there are many wrestlers - both girls and boys - with good records that go two and out when it gets to regional and state tournament time. Since there is only one state champion, are you assuming all non-state champions are pretenders and their efforts that got them to regionals and state tournaments - the intense conditioning, grueling practices and countless matches - were a waste of time?
Girls shouldn't receive, nor do I think most expect, any special treatment when wrestling guys. I think it's clear that what they want is the same thing you want - an opportunity to compete and a little recognition for their efforts.
Why challenge the skill levels of their opponents or assume their victories all come from forfeits? Have you ever wrestled a competitor that wasn't on your skill level or were all the victories in your wrestling career against top ranked opponents? Have you ever benefited from a forfeit - and if so, did you count the victory in your W/L record? What criteria do you think we need to have to determine who deserves to step onto the mat? What standards do you place on a wrestler before you will acknowlege their accomplishments?

As a parent of young boys who wrestle, I have no problem with them meeting up with a girl. However, my oldest boy is about to enter high school. I do have a problem when he wrestles a girl. As a mother, I am very uncomfortable watching him do some moves to a girl that he does to males. I also have seen what happens to him during and after a match. If he wins, his friends will say "well, you wrestled a girl what do you expect?" If he loses, his friends will say "Ha Ha Ha, you lost to a girl!" Is it fair? Is it right?, no but that is society. I have taught him to respect girls and that he there are boundaries in what he should "touch" and not "touch" on a girl unless he is in a very serious relationship. I strongly believe that girls who want to wrestle should get a chance and would like to see more do so. That way, they will have their own league and this will no longer be a problem. By the way, it is okay for girls to join boy teams (football and wrestling) but not okay for a boy to join a girls team (volleyball, softball, ect.) Why the difference?

We totally agree about the boys vs girls issues. This is exactly why we have the Kansas Krusaders so we can help the girls learn to wrestle with girls and move on in the sport. Unfortunately, this is difficult because all some girls have ever known was wrestling boys, and it is hard to convince them to try girls. The ideal answer, which I am afraid is still some time away, is to get a girls league in HS. BTW, I believe a boy could go out for a girls sport, and some have, but not many are willing to accept the grief they would get over it, just to change the system. Some girls have been willing to do this in wrestling. Right, Wrong or indifferent...girls are here in the sport and Ed and I are trying to work within the system to make it work for all. I do not get in many discussions on Title IX but if we had a girls league that would satisfy Title IX, wouldn't it?
Thanks for your ear. Ms. Jenni Coach Ed's not so quiet other side.
BTW--Coach Ed is older and meaner today.

I look forward to girls having their own league in wrestling. There are some tough cookies out there. I do have to wonder how comfortable a male wrestler is in "checking her oil" or "chin to chest" or being in the position of the "honeymooner". " To me thats stupid, if she's crying like that she probably shouldnt be on the mat." per foxystud. If that would be the case then wrestling wouldn't be the sport it is today. Those that take it over the top or throw tantrums do not have my respect. Those passionate about the sport who let a tear or two slip past the wall certainly do.

Cheryl Meyre was good. She competed with the boys, wrestled varsity for I beleive Sabettha, and also travled to national events. I don't really think girls wrestling boys is that bad but I do like what CoachEd is doing for girls wrestling. Then you have the view you hear the most, if the girl beats the boy the boy gets laughed at. Makes me wonder which one should not have been on the mat if that is an embarrassing moment for one or the other. There are alot of of reasons we can all agree or disagree on on both sides of the issue like girls going out for wrestling vs boys going out for girls softball because softball at alot of schools isn't offered to the boys. I don't think its right but that is just my opinion.

It is not right that the guy gets made fun of when he loses to a girl. But that is society. High School is tough. They may "take" the ribbing and still be tough and laugh it off but it is still there. We all know there are still stigma's associated with certain sexes and how they approach each other. What I was trying to say is that many people focus solely on the girls right to wrestle without looking at the boys perspective. Sexual harrassment goes both ways. Society pressure goes both ways. What about religious beliefs? There are always two sides to every issue. I just wanted to say that people need to think about all the consequences of their actions. I too am in favor of the growing women's league of wrestlers. I also know that there are some very talented women wrestlers who do kick guys butts on the mat. I am just saying that from a guys viewpoint, there are other issues involved in wrestling a girl than just in the match.
