I was at the Abilene regional on Saturday and it seemed like there was alot of injury timeouts being used so the wrestler to do no more than catch his breath.

Yeah well thats part of the game. As long as the coach doesn't coach his wrestler during his injury time he is allowed to do that. There was a wrestler from a rival NCKL school which I won't name who used to do it all the time, especially at the state tournament. But he was obviously good enough to do it cause he won state multiple times, if you can guess who im talking about you get 5 bonus points.

A good example was Kriegbaum of Abilene in the finals (arm) and Finley of Colby in the match right after that... Could it be they aren't use to wrestling 6 minutes. BTW, don't expect Jake to make the same mistake twice.

Actually Nigel, the rule about coaching during injury time has changed. You can do it now.

Hmm I was unawre of that rule change however the Coaches Code of Ethics in the NFHS rules "Coaches have the moral and ethical responibility of not permitting wrestlers to win matches by claiming injury unless they are injured to the extent they cannot or should not continue" I know I have see nthis several times when the kid wasn't really hurt and the coaches just let him win, I think thats wrong and very disrespectful to the sport. Getting slammed shouldn't be a disqualifier for a match. So you get your bell rung? so what? Unless you passed out and cannot see straight you need to go back out on the mat.

Yes, and that's exactly what happened to Daniel Smith at the Southeast Regional. It's his senior year and he won't be going to state because he got called for slamming and the guy won on account of injury, which was complete bull because it was very obvious he was not truly injured.

Nigel,

At last year's NCAA tourrnament in Kansas City, Iowa State's heavyweight was injured by Iowa's Steve Mocco on an illegal armbar. Rather than take the default, Iowa State coach Bobby Douglas had the match restarted then literally "threw in the towel" and defaulted the match back to Mocco. That is why Bobby Douglas is a class act.

Yes he is, and one of most well respected coaches in the country. I only wish some of the wrestlers and coaches in this state had the dignity to do the same.

Face it there is no such thing as injury timeout anymore. Now, it is just a timeout.

Who ever said that wrestling has no timeouts is wrong. I've seen more people take them this year to use their asthma control devices, which i have heard don't do anything right away. People have told me that they usually take about 15-30 minutes to take effect. So yes they are taking the timeouts only to catch their breath. My question is, why don't they use them 15-30 minutes before the match so they don't have to fake it during a match?

Whoever said that it don't work right away is wrong. My wife has to use hers and it does help.

The problem is, Who makes the decision if the kid is really hurt or not when he takes an injury timeout. If the official has to make that call, it could get us into a really nasty situation. Imagine an official saying a kid is not injured and doesn't let him take a timeout and then something is really wrong with him resulting in death or serious injury. BIG LAWSUIT coming your way. So I think we just have to deal with them being used by some kids as a break to catch their breath and go on.
