I think Madden might get talked up because he's a 3 time state champion. Clay has nothing to do with the talk, as he is one of the most humble people I have ever met. Just because he loses ONE match doesnt mean anything. I know your jealous Billy, because Clay accomplished more in one year then you did in your whole H.S. career. Do you honestly have nothing better to do with your time then talk down on wrestlers?

Also, I looked through all 50 posts under this topic and for some reason, I didnt see Madden getting "talked up" once. Hm....weird....

Glick125, you were not in the stands, were you? Talk was all around. Coaches mat side at the semis match were saying 'this is just to see who will lose to Madden in the finals'. And the punch at the end of the match? I've seen champions lose but not usually with punches at the end.

From the Stands,
Obviously you were not there if you are saying a punch was thrown. I was there and I could care less who won or lost but was looking forward to watching this matchup. Aaron did dominate Clay, no question about it, and after the third period buzzer sounded Aaron did continue to shove and push for a very short time and Clay did shove him out of frustration. I would encourge the moderators to delete your post as you are telling everybody that Madden threw a punch when this did not happen. Don't you honestly think if a punch was thrown the officials would have taken the appropriate action. Please don't get on here and falsely accuse wrestlers of doing something that they did not do.

Great comment's Glick and jumpin jack. "from the stands", do you want to step onto the mat with Madden or are you happy to just lie about what happened. Punches?? And talk around the mat? Which mat were you at??????? All I heard during the finals was the entire crowd erupting when a Norton wrestler would lose. I guess 3A shouldn't be Back to Back Champion's!!

i really didn't understand why the crowd was acting so badly towards norton. i think at that point Perry OK was the only team that could have caughten up to Norton in the team standings, so maybe they wanted an out-of-state team to win before a 3a team. it's pretty sad when Madden's little shove at the end got more of a negative crowd reaction than when Cole Garcia was racked in his finals match after the whistle.

Mr. Jennings,
This is Coach Ed and I'm Edison's father, as usual you don't have your facts correct. We don't post anything on this forum that pumps up our kids. If you profess something, please make sure you are correct. Also, if you were there you might have a different story to tell. That's all I have to say. Let the summer wrestling talk go for people who actually participate.
Thank you! COACH ED (EDISON)

I agree. Norton deserves every bit of praise. They cleaned up in what I consider the toughest tournament in the state. I would take a quiet second day if it meant I had five in the finals any day. And winning Newton in back to back years is another great accomplishment. They wrestled great, won the close matches, and had a fan following that many schools could only hope for.

I did not mean that my following is bad. Bishop Carroll's following is great. I was referring to the teams who were booing Norton for no apparant reason except they wanted all the Norton guys to lose. We have great support which begs the question: is it the good teams who have a good support or is it good support that helps build a good team?
I don't think our program would be nearly as strong as it is if it wasn't for the great support we get from our parents, our former wrestlers and their families (many of who still come watch), and all the other supporters (like you ksbevo).

Perhaps I missed something, but I did not recognize any widespread anti-Norton sentiment at the tournament. They quickly established themselves as the dominant team, with some terrific wrestling and great support from their fans. If there was any tendency towards cheering for their opponents, it's only because we tend to root for the underdog. On this weekend, every team wrestling Norton took on the underdog role.
The 119 lb match was an amazing performance by Aaron Ely. I don't know if Clay Madden has ever experienced such a one-sided loss in his wrestling career, and his frustration showed at the end. Madden is a class act, and his shove at the end of the match (there was no punch thrown) was not indicative of the type of wrestler that he is. I expect that we will never see that type of reaction from him again. Nevertheless, in my opinion, the crowd response was to the action at the end, not an anti-Newton display.

I hope you are right Mike. It may have been a rooting for the underdog mentality. I was so impressed by Norton I was just surprised to hear how loud the cheers were for all their opponents. (Although I was happy to hear it when Loos was wrestling them at 152.) But I guess had I been home to watch it I would have cheered against the New England Patriots only because I didn't want to see them win another Super Bowl.
