Those who are putting Dennis in the finals at 171 don't look to far ahead. I saw him get knocked off at a dual in Atwood by Jeff Samson, then I also watched squeak by in every match at regionals. Just don't be to over zealous guys, look for the sleepers, that is what makes state exciting.

Everybody thought ACCHS would not win regional, but they did!!!!! By over 50 pts. They have won state 2 out of the last three years, and placed fourth last year. I think they are at least a team worth talking about when you start talking about teams in the top five, but ACCHS is not even ranked in the top ten, guess they are not very good!!! Hoxie has been the favorite all year and will or should win it, with NOrton making a run!! I say third place is wide open!!! But it sure won't be some of the teams I have seen people talk about on here!!!!!!! Who ever gets hot and gets the breaks will take third, Hoxie and Norton should be the top two!!!
Schmidt from Atwood is good, but why is everyone picking him to win it!!! Who has he beat???????? I know he he can win it, but There are some pretty good wrestlers in that bracket.

one sleeper to look for at 171 is bo phannenstiel he beat the atwood kid that denis lost to and wrestled within a point of augastine (spelling) at their duel, faced a verry tough bracket and poor seed at regionals to place seccond to augastine

I think if mitchell from belleville gets hot he'll win 171 he is a very streaky wrestler so it just depends on his mood and the day.

just_a_fan, I agree, Mitchell has it all, and can win it, he just needs to decide he wants it bad enough. I don't think there will be to many people that can beat him next year at 171.

swade41 the reason everyone is picking schmidt is because he has not lost. And I know this for a fact that he has not given up a single near fall point all season long. So why can't you call him the favorite.

Don't rule out Paul Owings from Plainville at 103. He will likely meet Farber in the semis. Farber got by him 9-7 in OT at the Hoxie Invit. back in the first week of the season, but Owings looked pretty good last week, beating Madden from Norton in the finals at P-Burg. Any one of those 3 could be standing on the top step of the podium Sat. night.

I will tell you why I would not call him the favorite. 1. Phillip Lyons placed 3rd at 215 last year, losing a close match to Staab of Planville. 2. Lyons is 32-1 this season, lost to pingelton of Mill valley 8-6, his only loss and Pingelton is 37-0. 3. I know for a fact that Lyons has wrestled and beat more ranked kids than schmidt. So 29-0 may look great on paper, but how many ranked or quality people has he beat. Faught beat schmidt last year at State for 3rd place at 171 I think, and Lyons toys with him in practice. I'm sure schmidt is great he has to be to be 29-0 and have horienck to practice with everyday, and I'm sure if they meet it could go either way, BUT why is He, like you say, the Favorite, show me something, anything that puts him over Lyons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4lifewrestler, I think that Coday Hazard has a great chance at placing this year in the top four, he is just a freshman, but has been wrestling very tough this last couple of weeks.

First of all Effingham is a great team and I think that they probably will get third. Who said they wouldn't win regional? Schmidt hasn't met up with that many great wrestlers. I know he has beaten Cooper of Hoxie 3 or 4 times, I am sure he wrestled Hilt of St. Francis. Not sure other than that, but other than Roberts and Pingelton who has Lyons wrestled this year? Lyons and Schmidt are both great athletes, but I have watched both of them this year and I think if they meet up Schmidt will be walking away with the victory.

I would have to agree that lyons is going to win 189. He looked good at state last year losing to stabb which is nothing to be ashamed of and looked even better at kids state. I'm sure most 215 pounders are happy he moved down a weight. ellsworth top three...maybe 33.

Butters... Lyons has beat McGovern of Free State (6A) and Weishaar (4A) and he won every tournament including the Bobcat Classic with one exception and that was second place against Pingleton. He placed 3rd at State at 215 last year and has consistently proved that he is a worthy advisary.

HWT's Sprigg and Muir cannot meet in the finals. They are on the same side of the bracket. Even if they were on different sides, Muir would not make it to the finals. He my be able to beat average wrestlers with his double underhook throw, but he can't beat the good ones.
