As you are kind of a kingpin in the high school wrestling world, in particular the Northwest Kansas Area (and rumor has it you are in Beloit in person) please give us as much info
on the Beloit Tourney as you have knowledge of.

Hoxie has placed first as a team. This is what I caught over the radio so it might not be right and excuse the spelling. 103- farber placed second,112-not sure,119-baker third 125- spillman first, 130 gilliand first,135 matt schippers third,140 jason schippers third, 160 campbell second, 189 cooper fourth, 215 pratt fourth. Now for the results of the Taplin v Sharpe debate. I hate ties but in this case....

1st - GABE WALZ for correctly picking Taplin and sticking by his guns.

1st - KIRK WISCOMBE for predicting Taplin v Sharpe may never happen because of Johnson.

Not 1st - LES BROWN for trying to predict objectively and not following his own advice and checking the expiration date on his own cold medicine.

Beloit was a great tournament. And, yep, I called 152 all wrong. My bad. Kudos to those who picked it right. And congrats to Taplin - he was amazing. As was Luedke and, basically, every other champion.

Beloit ran a great tournament. Most of the weights had 4,5 or even 6 ranked wrestlers competing, so the competiion was awesome. Congrats to all on a great event.

Which wrestler suprised you the most?
Scott-Smith Center had a great tournament.
Corral-Clay Center looked good.
I was suprised with Kurt Schamberger-Hoxie.
Any others that suprised you? and what happened to sharpe? He didnt look too good.

Scott was definitely the surprise of the tournament for me. Beating Strait is huge no matter who you are.

What were the seeds at 119? Also, did Baxter beat Baker? And finally, how come Grant Parker did not place?

Baker was winning and Baxter put him on his back, other than that Baker wrestled very well, pinning everyone else he wrestled

What a tournament!!! Congratualtions to all. What was the score of the Luedke/Drennan match and the Ludeke/Englebert match.

Luedke beat Engelbert 11-6 and beat Drennan 6-4.

Les, What happened with Sharpe? Did he just not wrestle well or what?

i think sharpe is overrated johnson pinned him pretty quick in the semis

I'm not sure what happened. I still think he will have a great season, but he did not look like his usual self this weekend.

Part of it could have been that he was in a tremendously tough bracket - Sharpe (Colby) was ranked 1st in 4A ; Johnson (Manhattan) was ranked 2nd in 6A ; Wise (Plainville) was ranked 2nd in 3A ; Taplin (Abilene) was ranked 2nd in 4A and Fitzgerald (Marysville) was ranked 6th in 4A (at 145).

In the match he lost to Johnson, Johnson scored on a takedown and Schuyler faught it a bit longer than he should have (he was sitting on his rump) as he compromised position and Johnson climbed the ladder to take him to his back for a quick fall.

The match for 3rd and 4th against Fitzgerald was hard faught and - if I remember right - went to 2ot before Sharpe got caught in a gramby craddle and lost. I may be off on that, but I think that's accurate - please correct me if I am wrong.

Schuyler is a tough kid and will be ok. A lot of people have indicated herein that he is not that impressive. Some of that may stem from Schuyler's style.

He is not usually a flashy, high amplitude type of wrestler. He is more blue collar - two points at a time, ride your opponent into the ground and score when opportunities present themselves.

Sometimes you have to wait to see how the kid Schuyler just dominated does against quality competition before you appreciate how tough Schuyler really is.

He took some lumps this weekend, but you can bet that Coach Beims will have him ready to go the rest of the way.

What are Fitzgerald and Johnsons records?

Johnson came in 20-3 and ended the day at 23-4.

Fitzgerlad came in at 13-0 and ended at 17-1.

Sharpe came in 20-1 and left 22-3

Taplin went home 18-0.

Where is Smith Center? Is Scott Lucas ranked? I have never heard of him??

Smith Center is know for Redmen football. A 3A school North of Hay on Hwy 36. Scott has not been rank, I think the rankers keep missing him. He is a junior with a 22 & 2 record. Early loss to Henke form Osborne, later beat him by major decision, and a 8-9 loss to Cooper from Hoxie. Major wins, Bellville tourney pinned Gulick from Eureka in the 2nd period, was leading 9-1 so not an fluke, 12-6 decision over Hickle from Trego at a Norton duel on 1/11/03, 12-8 decision for Strait and 9-7 over Hill from Manhattan at the Beloit tourney. Beat Smetana from Plainville back in Dec when he was ranked.
