I was wondering why the two Qualifying Tournaments are run different.

Why at Regionals do we wait and wrestle the Semi's on Saturday but at State we wrestle them on Friday night?

It doesn't matter to me which one we do I was just wondering why they are different?

Prolly cuz Regionals starts later in the day, whereas, state starts really earlier in the morning. Also, their are more teams at some
regionals.

I dont know why the tournaments are run differently but i do have an opinion on the subject. I believe that the state tournament should be run like the regional tournament (with the semifinals on saturday). The state tournament is ridiculous for finalists. Yes i think its very nice idea to let finalists rest until their match at 6pm at night but i do not like it at all. By 6pm, some wrestlers are starting to get tired. Also, some finalists spend the day at their hotel where its easy to lose focus on whats ahead of them.

By having the semis on saturday, the wrestlers are forced to get up early and remain focused on the two matches before them. Plus the finalists are not nearly as rusty for their final matches, which leads to more exciting matches.

Wow Salyer, what did I do to you that got you so ticked off at me?

It doesn't matter to me I was just wondering why they are different?

Why are you worried about what I have to say when you have no control over it?

There are High School Coaches that get on here that are very knowledgeable that can answer questions.

Next time I want to ask a question I'll be sure to e-mail you to see if it is OK.

i would like it a lot better if the state tourny was run like regionals. by the time you are up for your semis match at state your already tired. if it was the same day as finals it would give the finalist a match to get warmed up and loose. you wrestle all day the first day and then you have to wait all day the next to wrestle on match. not that it matters what the wrestlers think and im sure there are some wrestlers who would disagree w/me but thats just my opion.

The state tournament has one more round on Sat. when they wrestle for fifth and sixth. Also, the state tournament has full 16 man brackets which take longer than regionals which have several byes. Last but not least the preparation time for the finals at state is more time consuming than at regionals, so to have the semi-finals on Saturday would be time-prohibitive.

i believe if they wrestled more of the consolation matches on friday, then there would be no time constraints for wrestling semifinals on saturday.

It has been my understanding that what Concordia's Coach Moore stated is true. The time factor of a full 16 man bracket on three mats creates some tough circumstances for wrestlers. In addition, in 3-2-1A the northwest Kansas fans love it because it allows the semi-finals matches to be telecast during prime time. And let's face it, with the way brackets are somewhat randomly seeded, those semi-finals matches are as exciting if not more exciting than the finals, i.e. Pyle & Drennan last year.

Plus, having only one backside round the first day allows more wrestlers to have the thrill of wrestling the second day at state. I think it's best for the sport to provide the best experience possible for all wrestlers- if that means more people the second day, or more state champs with the 4-class system, by all means do it.

Of course, having the finals on day two wouldn't really affect me anyway.....

No, I am not. Should I be? Well, according to my jerk teammates, perhaps.

It's everyone's good buddy bigkneepads#2 who's on JV, but that's only because he's behind Nathan Payne. (Who worked me at Ottawa. He's REAL good.) Hang in there. Just look at Jhris Cennings- last year he was behind me on JV, now he's ranked.

Coachjt, I guess someone found your posts to be so humorous that it angered him! Hey, I haven't seen Jeremy wrestle this year, what is his record? My son is still undefeated and unscored on so far... I don't know if you know it, but he didn't get scored on at state or at nationals last year! And he gets to wrestle in 12 and under again this year! I hope I'm not offending anyone, but I'm dang proud of him. Thanks to all you coaches who have helped him, and best wishes to you and yours, Gary Hensley
