A couple things, this is matt weishaar, so nigel you understand that. It was a great match, my brother was the better wrestler. He didn't take the t.v. timeout to get rest, he didn't try and work the outsid of the ring. He took many shots, and was the aggressor. Someone said he was warned for being on the leg, that is false. I have seen the tape, and for anyone to tell me that is stalling is not true. What is the diffrence between breaking someone down with an arm chop tight waist or driving their leg forward? At no time was weishaar just pressing straight into the mat while grasping his leg, he used this technique to break him down. He was dragging his opponent back to the ring when he was called for stalling. He had his state championship taking becuase of a call, not an injury like some of you. It hurts alot more. It is much harder to forget it, this is not abiline or concordia, Atchison has never had a state champion. I lost mine, but my brother didn't lose his. A ref decided in that match who would be the champion of that tournemnt. No one can say there were no bias cause of who straight and his coach were. And this post is nothing against straight, I like the kid, if your reading this I know remember chilling with me your sophmore year all saturday at state. But I do have the tape and can make copies, if you want to see it (anyone) postage and handling not included. But I know it is over, I just think it is wrong that a match of that magnitude can be decided in such a bad manner. I can't just drop it, Jake worked just as hard as any other wrestler out there, and deserved it just as much. It is too bad it was decided by a referre instead of who was the better wrestler. I know my spelling isn't great, so all of you reading this do not have to correct me in future post. Nigel, my coach always told me the same thing, it is great advice.

Matt, you say your brother had his state championship taken away from him. You need to remember that he would have had to of won 2 more matches after that to EARN his title. What's to say he wouldn't have gotten whooped in the semi's. This was the state tournament and as we all know anything can happen at any round.

Your thoughts are admirable Matt, and im sorry you feel the way you do, but nothing is really yours until you earn it. In theory and in practice jake had the talent and the heart to win a state title but he did not. That title was never his to lose becuase of the other talents in that bracket. It is unfortunate that only one person in a weight can be champion but thats how it is. My only advice to Jake is to keep his head up and realise that there are bigger and better things in life than winning a state title. In fact I find it more fullfilling to be coach than to sit around wondering why I dind't win the title my Junior year when clarly I should have. It takes class and character to come to that realization and I know Jake has both. As his brother you should support him on this and help him more on to the next phase of his life, if this includes college wrestling than that is cool. I remember seeing your disappointment at state too and I know you have bounced back regardless of how a match was decided. Jake will be okay, so let him get that way.

I was going to bite my tounge on this and let the post die out but I can't...

I really do feel sorry for Jake Weishaar but I think the refs made a good call. In fact, I talked this over with Rob Baumann who has officiated since 1961. He is also a supervisor of some sorts for officials. He told me a few years ago he was at a training session where this situation was discussed and he believed that official was there. He commended that official for making the RIGHT CALL. He said clearly you can not drop down to a leg and hold on when the wrestler stands up. You must continue the flow of wrestling. He stated that you can warn them after a stallmate but it is not neccessary. At that level he said the wrestler should know.

Anyway back to the reason for this post. I feel sorry for Weishaar because he is a good wrestler - no doubt. As he was receiving his medal on the stand his mom was standing next to me. All she kept saying was "That's disgusting" and "We know who the real winner is" - This went on the whole time during the presentation. Why couldn't she shut up for 2 minutes and be proud of her son's accomplishments. Those that feel he was screwed will always feel that way - and I don't blame them for defending their wrestler. But this is the last time he was going to be on the floor in his high school wrestling uniform - why couldn't you just sit there and be proud of his outstanding season - when his moment is over, then complain all you want. This didnt stop on the awards stand either... it continued to where they were taking pictures under the stands too.

And on a side note to Jake Weishaar, you wrestled good and I'm sure a lot of people are proud of you. I watched your remaining matches and I wonder why you didn't wrestle that aggressive with Strait. I don't know that you could have beat Pingleton, maybe maybe not. But if you wrestled as aggressive with Strait as your final matches maybe the outcome would have been different. You tried your best and that's what counts.

DEAR MYDIXIEWRECKED
AS ME MATT AND JAKE WOULD TELL YOU PLEASE DO NOT TELL OUR MOTHER TO SHUT UP DON'T MAKE IT BE A PERSONAL THING BECAUSE YOU KNOW WHO WE ARE. AND WE CAN THINK WHAT WE WANT. NO LOOKS AT ALL THE CALLS JUST THE ONE AT THE END.

Well mydixiewrecked, if you watched the match you would have noticed that when jake had a hold of straits leg, he was also standing up and then tripped strait. When Strait hit the mat, he was already halfway out of bounds, and then began to crawl out. 2 seconds after he began to crawl, Weishaar was whistled for stalling and lost because of it.

I have watched Jake wrestle since he was 5. Yes I was proud of Jake to come back from such disappointment, with such class and take 3rd place. That shows the strong will he has. Jake had wrestled like a champ all year. If you remember there was a lot of booing at that call and if you were at regionals you would know why. He lost a match because of a call that maybe should not have been made so hastly. There were 2 refs, and one should have talked with the other before he made the call and maybe it would have changed things. Just because someone hollows or screams doesn't always mean the wrestler did something illegal. Most of the people at regionals who were at state know that Jake got ripped off at both places. If anything the refs should make those calls like stalling all season, just not when it gets to regionals and state. My son had lived for that moment, I watched a lot of double overtime matches that weekend and saw no other stalling calls like that in double overtime. 2 1/2 seconds is not stalling, sorry. I know I'm just a woman, but after watching the sport for 17 yrs. I think I could ref better than that ref. You have to know when to fold and when to hold. He clearly took Straits side. The ref decided the winner of the match, not the best wrestler, Jake knows the rules, its just that the refs call things so differently, how are you suppose to know from one ref to another. That is an injustice to the sport. I love wrestling, but I didn't think that Jakes career would come to the decision of 2 refs and not his skill. Dixie, if you didn't like what you were hearing, you didn'thave to listen. I will miss the sport, good luck to all future wrestlers and I hope all refs could at least be on the same page when it comes to double overtime. That can't be to hard.

The other issues that these two calls the first one to me not as questionable... When your ahead by 14 to 2 throws should not be in your play book. With that said the one at State was awful! Strait did all the stalling NOT Weishire! Now Wieshire did not go to the Metro Classic and was not selected for the Senior classic. I can't understand why he did not get selected at least to the Senior Classic. Lyons lost to Pingleton and Pingleton went to the Classic ( Lyons did too) Why not give Jake SOME vendication!

This topic is just shot dont you think. Hey live with it, he didnt get screwed he got beat. It happens, jeez I have had kids lose hundreds of matches on bad calls or calls i thought were bad calls but you know there is another few minutes in the match that a person could have used to win the match, it isn't just that one moment in time. I am glad Jake didnt contribute to this junk, at least he isnt whining like everyone else is.
