Brook; You have actually had more than that there. They had a heavyweight back inthe 50's and when Ronnie Elmer won it they had another whos name escapes me now, but Harless will know if you are putting some history together. He had two that one year. I don't really know what was available for matches because I wasn't in on any of that process. I know it hurts to have a kid feel left out and he really did do a great job. Congratulations to him.

The Metro Classic is a fun and very worthwhile event and we want to keep it that way. So I have to caution this and future selection committees about the litigious world in which we live. The event draws many college coaches and a few scholarships are at stake. So when kids like George Roath, Kevin Ecker or whomever get overlooked, it's a little more than pride and honor that gets dashed. It's the potential to win scholarships worth thousands of dollars. I wonder how confident the selection committee might be in their choices if they realized that each could be held responsible for damages to wrestlers and their families if challenged in the Wyandotte County or Kansas City, Kansas Courts? That would be a terrible thing, but a real possibility. If I were on a selection committee, I'd want to have more than a compass to explain how the "crow flies" to Sabetha or Fort Scott to defend myself. I'd want very clear, established, published, legal rules and when in doubt a wrestle-off to determine the team and to protect myself and the future of the Metro Classic.

Well put Mizzou. I would have been inclusionary rather than exclusionary with these 2 wrestlers not really from the "lawsuit" aspect, but rather because they are both 2 time State Medalists. It's not like they are "One Hit Wonders" though State Champion and State runner-up are hefty feats in themselves.

I think that everyone on here knows what would happen if a comittee decided event such as the Metro were sued because of possible loss of scholarship money. Instead of fighting the lawsuit and chancing that the comittee's judgement would cost the state money and a huge black eye, they would just say forget it and cancel the whole event. Now, do you think some parents of Wyandotte county or Kansas City wrestlers would want to be the blame for the possible loss of 30 kids' scholarships? Unfortunately most people are so "out to get theirs" that I doubt that this thought would even cross their minds on the way to the court house.

Westfahl, before you get to full of yourself, the person who confirmed the 50 mile rule on the missouri board was Bob Glasgow, coach of Oak Grove. He served on the original committee that planned and established this event. I think he might know better than some keybord warrior. He also stated that in some instances there have been exceptions made to establish matches.

You know what I like about this Missouri thing is that everyone gets so instantly mouthy over it. Keyboard warrior huh. We have been answering that question about the 75 mile rule every single year since the thing was started. You got to get some new material over there. As for calling me names or being put off by anything I say, take a number who cares.

By the way, the odds of that kind of suit getting to the courts is just laughable. Geez I can't believe I read that on here. Is that a threat? Funny how that is the first thing people think about when they don't like something that happened. Be glad they have an event like this and enjoy it. This is not the first kid that felt like he got overlooked and it won't be the last.

1-I think the selection committee did an excellent job. 2-It sounds like some in Missouri are getting there excuses ready for a defeat.
