quote: _____________________________________________ Last year Abilene took 5 to state, alomst the exact same 5 they have this year, only a year better, and your saying they don't have depth? ______________________________________________
I think what was meant was from top to bottom 103 through 275. As for numbers Chapman took 4 guys I think 2 years ago and 3 of 4 made it to the semis, but the numbers game hurt them and they couldn't get some pivotal wins late and finished 11th or so, but still ahead of a lot of good teams

Dingbat actually you have it backwards. In 5A and 6A where there are 32 teams with about 20 of them having a kid capable of placing at state (84 medals) you can see those 20 teams would average about 4 placers a piece just to be average. In 4A there are 59 wrestling schools and there are an awful lot probably 45 teams or so who have at least one kid capable of placing at state. You can see that average for this group would be 2 kids or less. It is what makes 4A special and it is why it is easier to win 4A with less kids, The balance of power is spread out. 3-2-1 has even more 75-80 teams but lots of them are beginning programs or lack numbers (although I have seen several 4A, 5A and 6A programs who have too many open weights too)

Fanatic--Very good explaination. However, my post on this topic was just another successful attempt to get Nigel's panties in a bunch.

the Abilene regional was sure a setback for the big A but I remember last year when goodland looked pretty good after regionals, and got beat by Abilene and tied with Columbus. They will need to be ready because I am sure that the Abilene guys will be watching lots of film, wrestling hard at new stuff, etc. etc. and Scott City will have the numbers---- 13, to be exact. looks like a pretty good time in 4a next week. By the way, congrats to Cole Garcia!!!!

Mike, are you serious? A setback for Abilene? This is the best thing to happen to them. Did you know Mike that Abilene finished in 5th place at regionals last year, and still one state? Regionals is not like the state tournament at all. And the loses that happened were probably the best thing to happen becuase now they know what they got to work on to get ready. Just wait and see what happens at state next weekend, i bet you'll be surprised.

I think Abilene will do well, but...I've picked an NCKL school since day 1 to win it all and that was Concordia. Don't be surprised to see them make a sneak into the mix possibly. Also Clay Center looks good, and Goodland should be Greatland, because they looked awesome in the finals.

Actually despite, the numbers after looking at Scott City regional brackets, I don't think they will make a run for it and would bet Nigel is correct about them not placing higher than 6 th but then we shall see.

Time for a Dan Fouts moment: My prediction is that the team who scores the most points will probably be the winner.

You know guys I think that all of 4a is very lucky that SFT is without 2 wrestlers, Connelly and Schmale because they got what 3rd place at regionals they lost by ten points to Goodland and Clay Center, but Connely would of won it at 135 there is 20 points right there and with Schmale he very easily would of got 12-15 points so that would put SFT ahead. They could of won that meet by 20-25 points.Just my opinion.

I don't think Abilene is in too much trouble after looking at the unofficial brackets
at 130 it will probably be a rematch between kriegbaum and garcia at 135 if peterson makes it past the first round he might have a semi final match up with bowman at 160 taplin can make it to the finals with a matchup against strawn at 119 by losing at regionals dawson has put him on the opposite side of devoe and bahe and could make it to the finals at 125 i don't know if geske can beat ortiz and if he doesn't he could make one of those rare occurances where he could run all the way through the backside and take third.

I think Abilene is in good shape. I also agree SFT would be a strong contender with Schmale and Connelly. Fortunately these guys are juniors as are lots of SFT guys, they will still make the run, just a year late.

I'm just glad that not many people are expecting Scott City to win it. They were at a weak regional and I consider them nothing but a Mulvane of the past. Mulvane used to qualify almost their entire team, but once state hit, they just couldn't make much of a run. I put Scott in that same boat this year. They just don't have the outstanding wrestlers to get it done.

I guess I never expected SFT to finish so high at regionals and yet they do every year and then don't show well at state, so they aren't of much concern in my mind. Goodland definatly has momentium coming in, Columbus is certainly up there. Clay Center IF they wrestle well could finish pretty high so it should be a great tournament at state. Its either going to be really close betwen the teams, or one team is going to run away with it.

Go to the KSHSAA link. You will find it. I think it is as official as it gets. I did notice they have some Hoisington kids listed as Hoxie kids in 3A. I guess the HO abbv confused them.
