Just a hypothetical here (and thank you for the debat, there is only good that can come from sharing thoughts on this stuff), what if a wrestler was leading another by seven or eight points late in a match and fell on his back with ten seconds left and got pinned. The next year we come to the same point in the meeting. Is that match going to be the determiner that we use over all others? There are so many ways we could go with that deal. I think this specific weight brought to the table a lot of knowns. We knew both wrestlers were high quality kids. We knew we needed to split them. Course then along came sophomore Malloy and beat a state champ in the second round of the tourney lol. It is a tough deal no doubt and you make some valid points. Be sure to put your thoughts on the criteria thread Ihave posted here. I would value your comments.

Again, Great point. We all know that part of what makes wrestling a great sport is that there is always that sudden death where one wrestler can be caught and pinned. That is why we tell them to wrestle hard for 6 minutes, because you never know. I know that deep down there are differences, but I think we should count a win as a win and not get into the debate of "well he just caught us" or "he only lost by one point" or "in overtime" etc. If one of our wretlers got caught I would have to go with it as a loss. Pin, 1 point or 100 points.
Otherwise we will have to start going with wins, loses and should of wons on their records.

One thing that came into play there is that both of these kids were known to all of us. They were very close in everyones mind and many people in the room (not the coaches of those wrestlers) were in agreement with the seed the way it went down, in fact we ask for some of their comments to get us over the hump there. There were several other factors that muddied the waters besides the undefeated record but that is a hard one to ignore when the other kid had been beaten by an (as of that time) unkown quantity in a kid that had not placed in the state a year earlier. It was a puzzle for sure and was interesting how it worked out with a last second match in the finals by two kids who proved just how close a seed they were. It was fun.

I believe Coach Neil is right on this one! Your record should only reflect actual matches wrestled. Not forfeits or byes!
