I must agree with Vince, and disagree with anyone that doesn't like the split format. Here's why:

1). It doens't make the tournament last any longer. Your day will be the same if you have kids competing in both sessions.

2). The wrestlers aren't waiting 45 minutes to 2 hours between matches. This is hard for any age to "keep their head in the game".

3). As a coach, it lightens my load. I have half as many wrestlers to watch for bout #'s.

I have been to numerous split format tournaments, and I have zero complaints about them. It is the only way to run a great tournament. Don't believe it? Ask any wrestler who has competed in one.
