Nate, you're wrong. Look up the NCAA rules. You can't waive out-of-state tuition, regardless of how good you are. If a school offers a scholarship, the location of the recruit plays a big part in what percentage of a scholarship they are offered. But I'm sure Nigel has already told you about that, since many D-1 schools wanted him (ha ha).

Imagine Jhris on his first day back to school after losing the state title match. Thought he'd be walking in a hero but really just a big ol zero.

Haha yeah you're right, I feel like crap. Losing my state title match in high school meant everything to me. My college career, and entire life were completely ruined in that match. Eventhough I'm not wrestling in college...and we won the team title which was more important....

My oldest son was offered a scholarship to new mexico state in Las Cruces. they offered books and in-state tuition. If my son had chosen to go there, and if he had had a 3.0 of better GPM coming out of the Community College that he was attending, the tuition would have been paid. Since his GPA was slightly below 3.0, all out of state tuition charges applied and he would have had to pay the difference between the two.
That is the only experience that I have had with
scholarships, and at the time the college explained that they supplemented athletic benefits with academic ones whenever the student had sufficient GPA to warrant it. Hard for me to say whether or not that is a universal practice, but they were doing that in N.M.

I'll try and make it there Lucas. It will depend a little bit on how my classes are going and if I can afford to miss the study time. I should be ok though. Do I need to register before the tourney or can I do it the day of?

Dingbat academic scholarships offered by the school can waive out of state tuition. Most coaches recuit well-rounded athletes. I know this because the tuition was waived for me.

And in response to the whole, "I won my title" crap. Yes, Jhris didn't win. Neither did I. In fact I "choked" and got fifth. But you know what? I'm pretty sure we're both going to move on in life and take wrestling for what it is: a game. We could have done better but who really cares? I was upset for a while and I know Jhris was too, but since we haven't made wrestling the most paramount thing in our lives we're going to move on.

Frankly, I'm scared to wonder what you guys would have been like had you lost. You've built your whole lives around wrestling and if you hadn't achieved your goals you would have been depressed for the rest of your lives. Hell, I don't even know if what you have is better. Now you get to sit around your houses in your singlets watching tapes of yourselves when you were "studs" in high school, wondering why the rest of your lives couldn't be like wrestling because then you'd really "kick some ***."

Hmm, so Nigel was offered numerous D-1 scholarships? If one's grades are good enough, the school can wave out of state tuition at state institutions, but not at private schools (for they don't have out of state tuition). That means Igel would have been offered a scholarship from someone like OU, Oklahoma State, Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, Missouri, Northern Iowa, Michigan...so which one was it, Igel?

And I'm sure they would have waived the out of state tuition for our buddy, because as we all know, his grades in English and spelling must have been out of this world. Read his posts and you'll see that Abilene has its very own Shakespeare...

Baker, Smith, you're both correct, and me and LancerM are totally wrong. We're losers because we didn't win a high school state championship. I'm not Nate but I collect a lot of things of NCAA and wrestling nature. Many schools will allow you to after a year in the state to change you tuition to instate...it's complicated but can happen. Nigel was actually wanted by a few D1 schools his senior year.

Yes, after a year as a student with a local mailing address, you can be considered a permanent resident and in-state student. But that was not the topic. And I would LOVE to hear what D-1 schools offered Iigel Nisom a scholarship. Ha ha.

Yes indeed you can have your tuition waived, I did I can prove it; I still have the financial aid letters. My OOS tuition was waived for reasons other than academic which I choose not to list because it’s irrelevant. However DINGBAT you ARE WRONG PERIOD, you don't know what you are talking about and it’s been proven over and over again. As far Nate, Jhris, I find it hard to believe that you think he hasn't moved on with his life. If I am correct Nate is about to graduate from College which is probably farther than you will get and he's not the one on this site everyday talking about how good he is, and neither do I. I've come to the realization long ago that I am no longer a competitive wrestler for nothing more than the fact that my injury will not let me. However I stay involved in the sport because there are still so many people who makes this sport great, Richard is not included because apparently even with all his so called knowledge he still does not know that college do in fact present scholarships to non state champions (I’d make a list for you of kids just from Kansas, but then again since you like compiling stats so much, I’m sure you can do that on your own.), and I've lost all respect for the man because he apparently has none for me, but luckily for me I don't have to see him on a regular occasion or I think I would make a regular habit of ejecting him from tournaments for being an (insert another word for a donkey here). Now I'll also assure you that just like Aaron said, I WAS offered scholarships to several D-1 schools and just for FYI that was BEFORE I got hurt half way through my senior year (so in a sense at least Richard was partly right about something he said). I’m not going to sit here and list the schools and give you the satisfaction of knowing, its better to let you wonder but I will tell you they were from the Big 12 and 1 from the Big 10 (Prant your a pretty good guesser). But what does it matter? I don't wrestle anymore; I'm not going to wrestle anymore, well at least outside of recreational stuff. And no I don't feel the need to defend my self against trash talking high school kids who couldn’t beat me even on a bad day, but I do simply for my own amusement.
