Just a few preliminary facts about this years Bobcat Classic. This is not counting Glenwood,Ia because I have not seen their info yet.
There will be (as of now) 69 ranked wrestlers, 38 state placers, 14 state finalists, 6 defending state champs, and 7 who have won state championships before. Of the twenty three teams, 12 are state ranked as of now. Not too bad.

171 will have three defending state champs and four overall, five finalists, and nine ranked wrestlers and that is just at the 171 pound class!

I will admit Basheor is a tough tournament. But just to compare. Newton has 11 ranked teams (including two #1 and four #2 - also including the defending state champions of all four classes). There are 70 ranked wrestlers, 12 people who are either defending state champions or have been a state champion. And 19 returning state finalists. In addition there are few weak teams - 20 of the 23 teams have at least 1 ranked guy.
If you want a tough weight try 140 at newton with Johnson of Norton, Grater of Clay Center, and Zouzas of Salina South (along with 4 other ranked guys) or 112 which has 10 ranked guys.

Sorry you must have thought I was arguing with anyone over relative strength of tourneys. I don't care one way or the other about that, i was just relating some information about the Basehor Tourney if people were interested in coming. I have no opinion on "strength" or prestige of any tourneys anywhere it was simply an informational message.

Westfahl I have been in the same situation, simply providing information and having someone try to make an issue of it. I just appreciate the info!

Thats ok, I work the Tourney for Coach Neill and Joe Keeler and they have both done such a wonderful job with that tournament. Joe has worked harder to make that thing a big success than I have ever seen anyone work. The thing I like about it the most is that it is so wrestler friendly and so much for them. I think they have fun wrestling in it and we have fun working it. I have coached in all those other tourneys that people on here argue about and they are all great. The encouraging thing is that we now have enough good teams in this state to have so many quality tourneys. Joe and Coach Neill have certainly done their part to provide such a meet on the eastern side of the state. I hope they are all wonderful, it makes wrestling a big success in this state and provides an awful lot of kids great experiences and that is what they are for in the final view.

I can't believe you would browse this during your work day. How unprofessional!?! I hope your employer doesn't catch wind of this, for your sake.

Don't worry about it Westfahl, just a little mouthy kid doing his thing.

We are coming out to the Basehor Tourney this year, I brought my kids out to it last year and they loved it. I remember you when you coached against my brother who went to Shawnee Mission West.
