Well DelToro of Royal Valley and Kimzey of Prarie View who are returnung state placers are very likely to be in 4A so that leaves Honas of Ellis as the lone returning placer. I really think that 275 will be pretty wide open and perhaps people who were not even at state could be in the mix this year. I am curious if Muir of Stockton will put more effort in his weight control this year or what will happen with him.

There is a 215 at Rossville who could do well. He has a dangerous throw and has really surprised people with it. He was nothing special on the mat last year but he was only a freshman. He will be one to watch. You can ask Rice of Phillipsburg about him. Zlatnik pinned Rice at the Rossville tournament last year and went on to place second in the tournament while Rice went to the backside and got beaten out without placing.

Someone mentioned guys who didn't even make it to State last year, and with that in mind, I'd like to mention 275-pounder Kris Wright of Immaculata. Kris won the Wamego tournament last year, then suffered a nasty bout of the flu that wiped him out for much of the rest of the season. His off-season work and conditioning have been great, and healthy he might be as good as anyone in the northeast region. Granted, I'm biased, since I used to coach him, but he could be up for a great senior season.

Phil Lyons will definitely be tough at 215 next season. Zlatnik will definitley be there also, but I don't see him in the finals, being able to pull that throw of his will win him a few matches but won't be enough to get past more experienced wrestlers, seeing as how that is about all he's got. I also look for 275 to be wide open, which will be a big change from the usual everyone knowing that Ubben would win, although it was fun watching him dominate.

Gabe Walz from St. Francis will be tough at HWT next year. He will only be a sophomore but he should do very well. As for that Zlatnick kid, Gabe wrestled him at little kids state and lost after a 3-3 tie and he headlocked him....so i dont see him even making it to state but who knows

I don't think Zlatnik will win state by any means. I think people will be on the lookout for his throw. I am curious how someone can say Gabe will be really good because he only lost to Zlatnik in ot by a throw and then say the guy who beat won't be any good at all.

What's up, I am Gabe, call me cocky, but I am good....Zlatnik is good, he has good throws and is pretty strong, but when he wrestles kids that are gonna be older than him and stronger like my brother Dallas, I don't think he can win...if anyone has good counters to his throws, he is SOL....he beat me with a headlock that was like straight back, so I couldn't roll through, but it was 3-3 before that....he will have some success...but not a chance at the state title in high school....

Dallas Walz will do very good at 215. He is one bad mother! He is stronger than $#!+ and he has a positive attitude. I hope he has a lot of success this year. He also is a very good friend and role model. Go Dal!

Hey, "Someone", I just thought I would ask what you think of that Zlatnik dude? That is if you have ever heard of him. They tell me he is from Rossville. Tell me what you think.

I heard Effingham has a new football coach and his kid is supposed to be a pretty good wrestler. Does anyone have any insight?

I would like to think that Micheal Sprigg of Norton has a pretty good chance of placing in the top 4 in 321A(providing Norton goes back down to 3A)he finish 4th at state last yr(4A)as a freshman, The Mid-Continent league should be the league to watch again for a tough heavy wieght,Muir,Sprigg,Honas.....should be some fierce competition.

I was very impressed with Micheal Sprigg of Norton last year at State. Not many Freshman do that well at those upper weights. My son is in the lower weights, I usually don't watch the heavy weights that much but Sprigg cought my eye, he did very well.

I don't know how anyone could think Joe Zlatnik is just an average wrestler. Anyone who can come in as a freshman and wrestler 215 and do well is good. You are not going to find to many freshmen or sophmores wrestling at that weight. What you have are juniors and seniors who have started to turn into men. Show me a freshman at 215 who wrestles .500 for his freshman season and I will show you a future state champ. Joe did better than .500. No need to respond. Just watch.

I can guarantee you that "someone" has the best read on Zlatnik. I have no doubt "someone" has (seen) him a few times.
